We are updating our last post. We are helping out the Atlanta folks and want you to know that there are also several females who still need placements from the Grand South Team that we can place in KY. They are Italian, Swiss and Portugese. All are great students, speak English well, some play volleyball and soccer or other sports and come with full medical insurance and spending money.
The Miss Tennky Area AFS Volunteer Leadership Team needs your assistance in finding families for four more foreign exchange students who need places immediately in order to be here by the beginning of school. They are from Thaliand (female),Hong-Kong, Chile and Paraguay (males). Call Jenny Myers at 615-385-9644 or e-mail her at [email removed].

Does the Chattanooga/Hamilton County typically hire a lot of elem. ed. teachers each fall? Do any of the counties in that part of the state hire a lot of teachers? Sequatchie County? Any county within 50 miles of Chattanooga?
Hello to everyone! I moved here recently to the Knoxville area. I taught 2 years for Knox County and cannot ethically do it any longer. I have witnessed too many bad things. (Teachers and students) I am certified K-12 PE with my BS and MS in PE. Any advice or suggestions on where to go or how to get into a good school would be appreciated. Cannot afford substitute.
Hi I am looking into moving across country and teaching somewhere different than southern california. can someone out there give me some advice on what pay is like out in tenessee, good districts, affordable places to live, and the live. I am fully credentialed here in california and have a master's of science in school administration. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I moved here to Knoxville from CA. Loved teaching there but have hated it here. Pay will be less depending on district. You can check out [link removed].
Good luck!

Ive been living in knoxville now for a year. In February this year I applied for my teaching licence, and upto now have not got it. Every time I call they are working on applications that got got to them on th 5th, the 6th and last time it was the7th of february. At that rate Iam looking at the whole year before they get to those that arrived on february 22nd. Another school year has passed me by. I had a preliminary credential from California and had just finished work on my clear credential when my husband found a job here. I had no Idea it was going to be this hard to find a job here. I dont see any schools with any openings for an English Teacher. I am really stumped and desperate. My certifacation in california was secondary English. I have already applied with knox county schools but have heard nothing. Help. What should I do?
I did not know it would be so difficult either. TN Dept of Ed lost my paperwork and said that I did not send it in. Coming from CA I made sure that I had done all of my running around before I left. I kept calling and finally I got someone that listened to me and thought about it. She had me call her back in 45 minutes. Sure enough, she found my entire packet with everything in it.
My husband got a job here, as well. I have my CA Prelim, Professional Clear, BS and MS in my subject matter area. I taught for Knox County and cannot do it anymore. It is very difficult to get into other districts. I spoke with a very nice person with Maryville City Schools and she calculated that their teachers stay on average 25 years! I wish I had found this site before moving out here. I would try Oak Ridge, Maryville City, Anderson County, Lenior City, Loudon County and Alcoa. Depending on far you want to drive, you can look at surrounding districts. Go to [link removed].
Good luck to you and keep me posted. I like to hear when people get in. It gives me hope!!!

And what about those who are already licensed and ready to go into classrooms who followed the traditional route? Ah, they are of no importance. The fact that this group is federally funded speaks volumes. We need to show congress that this route is working and the numbers of alternative licensed teachers are up. Would you be interested to know that in a major city two alternative licensed teachers walked off the job in the same classroom? Not once but twice by Nov. of that year mind you, these kids were left in a lurch due to doe eyed teacher wannabees solely because district CEO's want to show that they are "team players" with the government.
Hi everyone! Is there a need for reading specialists in Tennessee? East TN specifically. It's different across the country, so I was just wondering what the need was for reading specialists/literacy coaches in your area. Any info would be great. Thank you! =)
