I'm Sindhu and I work for NPR's podcast Planet Money. I am working on a story that looks into what pre-K is actually like in Tennessee, in light of the vanderbilt study.
If you or someone you know works for a VPK preschool, please email me at [email removed].
Hello Teachers in TN! My fiance and I have been planning on making the move to TX. HOwever we recently started to reconsider moving to the Nashville area. I hear there have been lots of changes in TN to help teachers. I am certified in K-6 from NJ and am looking for advice as to whether I should consider making the move to TN or continue on to TX.
I agree- don't come here to teach. TN doesn't accept licenses from other states-I have had licenses from 2 states & they will not accept either. I have a M.Ed & that I'll have to take more classes & retest to get a license here-not happening. Also, TN doesn't like people from other states- they only hire their friends & family. Try TX.
We were overwhelmed with the number of original volunteer project ideas we received. A winner was chosen - Sam Harshbarger of Cranbury, NJ - and he and four other students received full scholarships to bring his vision into action on a customized, two-week program to document indigenous Russian populations. Watch an interview with one of the participants.
As a result of last year’s success, Project: Change is back, and bigger than ever. You will see that it is featured prominently throughout the Scholastic materials. We also encourage you to spread the word to inspired teenagers in your community. They’ll have the chance to learn about real issues affecting our world today, and expand their thinking to come up with ways in which they could be part of the solution. See what Project: Change is all about.
Last year Catlyn Ellis ( who is now a freshman at UTK) and was a senior at Rossview HS from Clarksville, TN, was one Mthe four national winners who won a trip to Russia to explore her project.

Many scholarships are available ...See More Why are not more parents with gifted and talented children not hosting AFS-USA exchange students and sending their children on study-abroad programs? Even students in IB programs are not taking advantage of these opportunities to grow in ways that are not possible with out reaching out. See [link removed].
Many scholarships are available for semester, year, summer, gap and global prep, but some deadlines are even October 1st for those that are for second semester in Italy and South America. In fact there are still AFSers scheduled to study here in the USA who still need loving hosts for the fall. See above web site and/or call 800-876-2377 for more information and to see mini-bios of those who need you.
I was a sub there. Rutherford county uses Holland Employment (now Advantage, I believe) to book subs. You have to apply in person and then call to book your interview. After the interview, you go through a training course they say lasts 3 hours but takes less than that. You will also be drug tested at the training. After that, you will need to get fingerprinted at Cogent, across the street from the Board of Ed in the Southpark Center. I'm pretty sure Advantage is located on Broadmore now but they were on Church street, pretty much across from The Parthenon restaurant. Sub pay is $60 per day w/o teaching license and $65 with.

Bring the World to TN-Host an AFS-USA Student this Fall
There is still time to make an application to host an AFS high school exchange student this fall, but in MNPS the deadline is earlier than in surrounding counties. It is by June 1st.
