So within a few days after this crisis broke, I was called into the principals office and told to sign a statement taking responsibility for the whole moonshine ordeal as it "happened in your room" liability. The next morning the assistant principal came into the breakroom and started a casual conversation with me and another teacher said she had spent the prior afternoon reviewing several hours of video of many students drinking moonshine all over the school during class change and coming out of other teachers classrooms. I was shocked as I just had to sign (accept) reponsibilty for the incident that was stated by my principal as "only happening in your room"
Yet in the coming days no other teacher had to sign any statement of responsibility for their personal file, just me, as I had no tenure (or was not a local). So I probably should not have signed it but did not want to create waves (thus keep my job). What a mess.
I got non renewed at the end of the school year because the principal rolled this incident into my observations (classroom management). I got in the most trouble out of everyone (including the kids who drank the moonshine and got caught). And all I did was come into work that fateful day. The grandfather that gave the kids the moonshine did not even get in trouble. Just me, I had always prepared myself to be ready for a crisis but not on this level of deceit by a school principal and covering up important evidence.
So fast forward over a year later, I still cannot secure any teaching jobs and my 10 year teaching career now appears to be ruined. I have interviewed with other schools but they drop me in a hurry from consideration once they call my old school for a reference......thanks all in part to Jefferson County Schools and the superintendent who was ambiguous about being fair about this situation. I would warn anyone reading this teaching in Tennessee to be wary of joining this system if you see a teaching vacancy.
These are examples of students who still need placements soon. German CBYX Students Available to Host! Niklas: Niklas says he can’t imagine his life without sports. A dedicated basketball player, he practices four times a week and has won state championships with his team. Additionally, he acts as a coach for a team of kids under age 12. In school, his favorite subjects are history and English. He is looking forward to experiencing a new culture and meeting new people. He also loves animals and would be comfortable in a placement with pets.
Change a Student’s Life and Change the World: Host a YES Student From Yemen! AFS-USA will be hosting six students from Yemen this year and four still need to be placed. These boys are exceptional students and youth leaders who have won YES scholarships to make a difference.

I am currently attending Austin Peay in Clarksville, TN. I went to school in Montgomery County all the way since Kindergarden through high school. I can tell you personally, Hazelwood Elementary, All Rossivew schools, Richview middle, Clarksville High, all West Creek schools, Glenellen elementary, Woodlawn elementary, and Montgomery Central are all fairly good to very good schools to work for. But, some teachers have not liked Kenwood, Northeast, and Northwest for various reasons, such as the students, the faculty, the administration, etc. but all in all, CMCSS is a good county in Tennessee to work for. I went to West Creek middle and high. I must say that my favorite teacher ever was my 7th grade social studies teacher at west creek middle, which was 7 years ago. He is still there to this day, so he must obviously love his job! Just thought you would like to hear the perspective of a native and a former student of the school system!
