Hello, I am a spec. Ed teacher in massachusetts and I am looking to move south where its warmer and cost of living a little better. Im just wondering what its like to teach in virginia. I have a masters degree. Im basically wondering if my salary would support me and my family.

I retired in North Carolina two years ago and now am being considered for an opening in Pittsylvania County.

Bill t thanks for the response.

I still sub in my former school and things have gone "south" since I retired in 2013. way too much micromanagement and outright interference, never mind the "benchmark" testing every 6 weeks and the prep done in class for each one. Incredible amounts of instructional time are lost with this reg...See More

JulieGnotinNC Bill, I was a long time lurker on the NC board and I'm familiar with your story (and you did fight the good fight!). I'm in a northern county and, unlike NC, local pay scales vary widely.
