Then, today Priscilla Hayden, the president of the State Board of ...See MoreGovernor Manchin, you claim that the bills racing through the Senate came from the State Board of Education. Yesterday you made it very clear that the contents of these bills were not your doing. Clearly, your intent yesterday was to separate yourself from these bills. Why?
Then, today Priscilla Hayden, the president of the State Board of Education, sent a letter to legislators informing them that her board supports "Governor Manchin's bills." Whoops!
OK....the gig is up. Now is the time for you, Governor Manchin, and your puppets (the state board) to get your stories straight. You cannot continue this ruse one more day. It is imperative that you hire a choreographer to clearly delineate the roles in this charade. You are confusing your audience.
Governor...Ms. Hayden, you've GOT to come together and work as a TEAM! After all, you have reputations to protect. The whole state is waiting for your encore, and hope to see a better showing. PLEASE, straighten those puppet strings tonight and see if you can come out on stage tomorrow READY TO WORK! If your performance is no better, we're going to have to put you both on improvement plans!
Thanks to a Social Studies test that blew the kids out of the water, and a Math test that was very similar, Manchin will blame the teachers.
My grandson participates in the gifted program and is an "A" student, but he just rolled his eyes and said that Social Studies was hard, hard, and harder!
WHEN are we going to use a national standardized test???
demise of westest2WESTest 2 will only be used a couple of more years and then we'll go to a national test. It's already in the works - that's why he's not advocating for it as a reform.
What is Manchin's latest claim to fame? Break the teacher unions and make the public believe that West Virginia's teachers are not worth the paper our checks are written on.
The Manchin's (Gayle and Joe) and their puppet, Steve Paine, are running many good teachers out of the state. But, remember, their plan is to replace them with non-certified teachers that have completed 16 hours. Would anyone like to place a friendly wager on how many years (or months) they will remain? I say the magic number is three....three months, or maybe three years if they REALLY need the meager paycheck.

Has anyone followed the release of the uniform standards for education across the nation? With Supt. Steve Payne and former gov. Bob Wise in the credits, WV teachers may want to pay attention to it.
ABC news story lists WV as one of the states that has tentatively adopted the standards based on the earlier drafts.
States have until Aug 2 to adopt standards or not. Virginia wants to keep its own standards.
Obama administrations supports common standards. Texas and Alaska only two states who did not participate or support common standards.

I hate to add even more "rain" on this parade, but the previous posts are absolutely correct. Though I love my home state of West Virginia, public education in this state has ALWAYS faced a degree of resistance, skepticism and negativity. Sadly, it has only gotten worse the last decade or so!
Though the Clarksburg area is fairly nice (I live and work southwest of there in the Huntington WV area) the entire state has alot of "issues" when it comes to public school teachers. The media, legistature, many in the private sectors/business and most disheartening our own governor seem to think we rate somewhere between terrorists and meth dealers. Our pay is now approaching last in the country and there are legislative "special sessions" going on this summer that essentially want to errode the few scraps of dignity we still possess.
Look, I'm a man. And yes, I do wear the pants in the family (my point is I may drag my family somewhere if I felt I must). But I also love my wife enough NOT to drag her from the proverbal frying pan into the fire. If he thinks it's a "can't resist" opportunity, ya otta look into another field when you get here - but good luck.
Bridgeport has a lot of nice areas to live and the high school program is good. The teachers developed a parent resource center--it would be a nice way to meet other people and find out all the extra programs that are available. We have several sporting activities for students with special needs-- summer and winter olympic games. I'm not sure how this will compare to what you have--only you can compare the programs.
We do have a lot of teachers retiring. You could start bidding and see what happens--you could also get on the substitute list.
Clarksburg is 10 to 15 minutes away--very easy drive--small towns.
If I may ask-- where is your husband going to work?
I hope this helps--if you have anymore questions please feel free to email me at my address [email removed]
1. As student achievement and a greater understanding of curriculum have become more relevant, what are some ways you have found to apply curriculum to previous knowledge? 2. Technology seems to be the way in which education is steering itself. Some believe that technology can lead the way and eventually produce better schools, while others believe that there may be long-term consequences that are not being considered in the rush to use technology. What are your thoughts on this issue? 3. NCLB states that the equitable distribution clause requires states to take steps to “ensure that poor and minority children are not taught at higher rates as other children by inexperienced, unqualified, or out-of-field teachers.” What are you beliefs on this subject and why? 4. How do you view the NCLB act? What is your opinion on the matter? 5. In your years of experience do you feel that your teaching philosophy has helped or harmed your classroom? Have you had to change it? 6. How do you talk to a parent who may not agree with you as a teacher? 7. What steps do you take in the classroom to implement NCLB while obtaining Higher Order Thinking levels for those students? 8. How does your overall school mission coincide with your classroom philosophy that addresses a safe learning environment? 9. How do the styles/ methods you use today differ from those that you used when you first begin teaching, what brought about the change? 10. In your opinion what should the desired outcome (socially, economically, and politically) of the teacher be when teaching students?

I respect Byrd for his many accomplishments. He showed that people can make mistakes and still succeed in life and change their prejudices and not let stupid bias cloud their vision. He showed a great passion for animal rights and never backed down on his beliefs. But status quo does not lead to progress. WV, and America, is in a rut because it cannot rise above the entitlement voters. You made good decisions and make good money so I am entitled to what you worked for because I made bad decisions and do not have any skills. I don’t have to be responsible and plan for the future because the government will “spread the wealth”.
As for the Constitution, I can’t seem to find the part where I surrendered my right to freely express myself and then be subject to derogatory name calling

You don't even know the correct context in how to use the word "prejudice." I don't know about the homosexual thing and being "derogatory" Most teabaggers are proud of their illogical views in the face of overwhelming facts and evidence. Oh come on, you guys are the teabaggers, you guys were the 21% who will always approve of Bush and Cheney. You guys are the "birthers" the "Anti-Vaxxers" the "9/11 Truthers" the "Creationists." There is so MUCH to be proud of, nothing derogatory.

I am an intelligent lady who wants to make a well-rounded decision when accepting a teaching position in West Virginia. Please provide responses that are honest with examples. Thank you for your help.

I friend of mine taught for 30 some years in Jefferson County and finally spent her last few years, before retiring, in Berkeley County because she couldn't take it anymore.
We have lots of problems in Berkeley County but she said that it was like night and day from Jefferson County. She was sorry that she hadn't come over decades ago.
Howard is a wonderful, considerate, and helping man who probably has a drinking problem. If anyone has the capacity to change it's he, if given the chance - after all the good he's done and the kindness he shows to others, please give him that chance, for God's sake. Few know the heavy cross he bears; he won't tell because he keeps it to himself. No matter what transpires, he is one who should be given a break.
funny ...it was not one of uncle Joe's reforms
