We all need to be very aware of the special sessions that Manchin is planning on calling shortly. The Senate is full of bully pulpit politicians trying to keep their names in the media. Besides Eric Wells, Jeff Kessler is also an example of a Senate member who has been in the news media recently spewing anti-teacher ramblings.

We need to remember that the Senate places blame for the woes of education squarely on teachers, as if raising children in West Virginia is the responsibility of the teachers. They absolve parents, and the students, of any and all responsibility, while forgetting that teachers have been given a plethora of content standards that are nearly impossible to master if teachers taught 365 days a year. (Public - Google West Virginia Content Standards if you doubt this.) Fortunately, the House side sees responsibility for performance as being multi-facted, and to this point, has been able to stand firmly against Manchin's Senate puppets.

Here's the REAL problem Kate: I PROMISE you that neither "union" will ever publically endorse a strike - no less encourage one (i.e. NO political guts or clout left in either!!). By the way, I was a third year teacher teacher in '90 and participated proudly!! Given the "union" ineffectiveness, exactly what, my dear friends, do WE actually say or do to retain rights, pay and benefits?!?!?! Vote'em out (or threaten to)?

Anyone wanna bet me a months' pay on whether Wells, or Kesslar, don't get EASILY re-elected? I'll take that they do.

The other MAJOR problem is all the bleeding heart (whether it is real or fained for effect) teachers that act as if we all should kiss the dirt the kids walk on for the "right" to teach. There are more of them than you know. I do an excellent job, I have know problem saying it. I put in far more than "a 40 week", and I have kept up with new methods, technologies, and petagological styles - BUT IT IS STILL JUST A JOB!!!!!! Unlike so many of the "school widows" out there: MY family is more important that someone elses' kids - PERIOD. If some of you want to be monks, saints or saviors; pick a line of work where you don't drag the rest of us into your hole of ...."my entire life is my classroom " crap! It simply encourages the public at large to bash the rest of us for wanting a working wage and a few benefits.

But, good luck Kate. And use a pillow between the wall and your head - it'll save ya the headaches I used to get!

annoyed I'm with Kate. Wish I had the solution.

I guess all we can do is vote those who despise teachers out of office.

It takes a bit of research to find out who it is. Not alot of time- just a few minutes.

WV metro news is a good place to find out who they are.
