Worst Districts in West Virginia

What are the worst districts in West Virginia? Which ones offer the least amount of pay for teachers? Which ones have violence and little support for the schools and the teachers who are employ to educate their children?

I am an intelligent lady who wants to make a well-rounded decision when accepting a teaching position in West Virginia. Please provide responses that are honest with examples. Thank you for your help.

Charlotte I don't have an administrative degree, however I do have thirty years of teaching experience and remember the days of Bill Baker and administrators who told you how they felt and meant it. You could expect them to back you up if you were right and not run and hide when parents entered the building. They were strong and commanded respect. I don't ha...See MoreI don't have an administrative degree, however I do have thirty years of teaching experience and remember the days of Bill Baker and administrators who told you how they felt and meant it. You could expect them to back you up if you were right and not run and hide when parents entered the building. They were strong and commanded respect. I don't have a clue where you teach but maybe you should ask some elementary school teachers who have the $200.00 dollars in Faculty Senate funds (minus copy machine funds) and an additional $25.00 or $50.00 tops from the county to buy supplies for the entire year. Trust me it is not enough. As for consolidation the only consolidation that goes on is in the non influential areas. If you really want to see somthing have the kids who are overcrowding Daniels Elem. who live in Grandview go via interstate into Beckley Elem. It would be closer and Beckley has plenty of room for expansion if needed. That will NEVER happen and you know it if you teach in Raleigh County. No, I am not digruntled, will be retiring in four years and have been nominted for teacher of the year in three different schools. I get along well with my administrators because I realize ultimately it is their call. I can also see the problems and the downward decline in the system on a whole and stand by my comments. Raleigh County has plenty of dirty laundry and goes further down hill each year. Perhaps that is the nature of a system to reach a pinnacle and then devolve. I don't know, I think perhaps my comments were taken as someone who was bitter because of an event or slight, that is not the case. I am angry and disgusted, but only because I do remember when I was proud to tell folks that I taught in Raleigh County. Now, I just keep quiet. KayCee Charlotte, I think that's the way it's become in most counties throught West Virginia. The money isn't making it into the classrooms and we are central office top-heavy, including teacher coaches, supervisors, director I,II,and III's, superintendents, and assistant superintendents. Heck, no wonder there's no money to pay teacher salaries and retirements. Oh, and add to that the money-sucking RESA's that have to advertise their services at the rate of $100,000 a year. Otherwise, no one ever sees their personnel.

kate As much as I hate to say it about our state, it appears that Jefferson County is in the minority. But, it has always had a very good reputation. Lucky you for having such a wonderful opportunity to for such a generous county.

Coach I don't know about Jefferson County. The top administration has always seemed directionless and disorganized. A few years ago they lost millions of dollars of SBA funds because they couldn't agree on how to spend it (Had to send it back).
