I see that the propsed law for yearly teacher evaluations failed. Isn't that great? My kids get to keep going to school to get an education from less-than-average teachers who care more about talking in their cell phones in class than actually teaching, or bashing Obama and forwarding their propapaganda, AKA thinly veiled racism, to the students. High school social studies teachers should know better than to call our leaders socialist . . . a social studies teacher is supposed to know what socialism is, as well as tell the truth about all the other lies being told about our government. GO Harrison County! Keep brainwashing students, turning them into hate-filled patriots! Please bring back evals!

hmmmm Interesting since I get evaluated yearly (with more than 10 years experience).

I do not have a cell phone. They are not allowed in our building.

NPteacher You are obviously a know-it-all parent who knows so much about educating children that you might be better off doing one of two things. One, start your own private school that will only offer your political opinions to kids of your political orientation or home school your own children.

Another View I believe I know the teacher referred to in the original post. While debating how well our leaders are doing or debating the pros and cons of each cadidate or party is one thing and totally acceptable, a teacher who tries to instill the idea that we are being taken over by socialists, that Obama is the Black Messiah, that we will be put into FEMA c...See MoreI believe I know the teacher referred to in the original post. While debating how well our leaders are doing or debating the pros and cons of each cadidate or party is one thing and totally acceptable, a teacher who tries to instill the idea that we are being taken over by socialists, that Obama is the Black Messiah, that we will be put into FEMA camps for dissent, that he is taking away all of our private lives and rights, that the underpriveleged students (i.e., POOR) are that way because their parents are lazy and do not deserve any breaks . . . that is another thing. I know that teacher. There are all kinds of complaints against her, from students to parents to--especially-- her colleagues. There is a line . . . and she has crossed it.

Some families choose to watch t...See MoreIt is most disturbing that the original poster appears to categorize most teachers as "less than average." My son's favorite high school social studies teacher was very politically opinionated. While we didn't always agree with his opinions, they usually provided fodder for family discussions around the dinner table. Some families choose to watch television while eating and some eat in silence. We talk. And, the topic usually has something to do with school, friends, the upcoming weekend, even politics.

Every politician has to be thick skinned because, like us, they aren't perfect. I voted for Obama, knowing that he was inexperienced. He's made a lot of mistakes and admits none. Bush made mistakes and admitted none. Clinton did the same. Presidents are going to be criticized and know that going into the job. Thanks to the internet, new stories about them are posted daily for our kids to read. We cannot insulate high school kids from these stories, but we can provide them an opportunity to discuss them at home and in school.

If you think the high school teacher in question should be fired for her comments, just wait until your kids are in college. Your tuition fees will pay for political and social views that you never thought existed. It's just life in America!
