1. Do the students attend Specials classes based on their actual grade level, or do they attend classes at the level in which they can most actively and successfully participate?
2. How do you accommodate/modify units on recorder, guitar, etc?
Had a heart stopping experience at the water park yesterday when I saw an unsupervised toddler topple head first into three feet of water I ran over there jumped in as I yelled lifeguard twice before she saw I needed help. He was floating head down towards the bottom - it was terrifying to see this. He started crying almost immediately so I think I got there in time. Because no one was watching him and once he went in the lifeguard would have had a blind spot, if I hadn't noticed his toddling around, I know he would have drowned. I looked it up later and it said toddlers can drown in as little as 20 seconds. I never did see an adult so I don't know if those parents even know how close it was that their son died. This wasn't a matter of a parent being distracted for a minute. This child was clearly being neglected. My observation skills of watching all children at once served me well. I stopped shaking about an hour later but it's neen difficult not to keep thinking about it. I just happened to be in a he tight place for that little boy.
Most of the riders in my club ride the roads instead of trails but I like both equally well. We older folks tend to be the ones who utilize the trails. I like that they tend to be less likely to have less stuff like gravel and sticks on them.
Sounds like a fun ride for you! I am still a bit stiff from our ride Saturday. We are increasing to the 20 to 30 miles now. Week after next - the dreaded hill practice. The kind that some are at the lowest gear halfway up. Throw in excess heat like last year - yikes!
Elaine/ret/INMen--yes, it was the Rochester-Kokomo trail. We've now ridden most of it. What's left is the southern part into Kokomo. Come to Indiana and ride with us. (You'll be braking all the way--speed is not our forte. Ha!)
We are a unique group because most years we have 100% participation. This means you will receive 50 postcards - one from each state and Canada! That is how we all end up with one postcard from each state, plus Canada too.
You have to mail out 50 postcards - they can all be the same. You type the same thing on each postcard describing your state and what the students do in the winter. (Glue sticks are wonderful)
If you are interested in joining, please reply to my email address with the info I need to set you up. dahliamrsk@gmail.com
If you decide to join, I am glad because this Postcard Exchange is made up of a great group of enthusiastic teachers. Our response rate is so good that most of the teachers keep signing up year after year to be part of the exchange! This is the 17th year of our exchange!
In order to set you up for the Exchange, I would appreciate if you could provide me with your name, exact school address for mailing purposes, and the grade level you teach.
I also need to know how you would like your name listed on the postcards. (For example: Mrs. Kugelman's 3rd Grade class, Mrs. Jill's Class, or the 4th Graders in Room 5).
I am creating a list of everyone's school address and will organize the list into labels and/or a Word file for easy mailing for everyone. We include one teacher from all of the 50 states plus Canada.
I usually ask the students to bring in 3-4 postcards of their state (appropriate for school). I also ask the school district to pay the mailing costs. Please note that we do not use homemade postcards, only commercially-made postcards may be used for our exchange. Some teachers use VistaPrint and create their own postcard that looks just like a commercially-made postcard.
Some people buy postcards on Amazon. Here is the link to the CA one. You just search for postcard vintage. This is only for 20 postcards though: https://www.amazon.com/GREETINGS-CALIFORNIA-identical-postcards-1930s-1940s/dp/B00XW8KRPA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1530748371&sr=8-1&keywords=california+postcard+vintage
The mailing date for all the postcards is in November.
