Our battery operated smoke alarm started beeping like it does when the batteries get low.. a very early alarm clock which translates into an early start today. I kept hearing this unusual sound outside the open window before I realized it was an owl! So my day is off!
With these 90+ degree temps come the severe thunderstorms in the evening. Too hot to ride in the day and too stormy in the evening so won't be cycling today again. The youngest is taking off in swimming lessons so now poor me has to take her to the pool to practice budding skills. This one has all the right characteristics for being a very good athlete so I am trying to give her as many opportunities as possible to explore different sports now before she has to decide on her focus.
Next week is busy with the teen as the team meets to put in a plan on high school placement in the fall. She is part of the meeting and her mindset is not realistic. Not looking forward to that discussion. Next day we travel to the children's hospital after a six month wait for her turn for an assessment of what really is going on with her(beyond just being a teenager) Since we took her out of the school where there were too many social problems, all that stress and mental anguish went away. Now we can see more clearly the things that are not right because the school environment is not complicating the situation. Throw in day camp, swim lessons, crochet lesson, etc I am not sure how much cycling I will fit in. It depends on the weather. I will prevail!
Husband is taking care of the garage sale so if the predicted storms hold off, I am cycling with the training group. Next week we leave the safe bike trails and start on the county roads. This also means longer distances at a higher speed. I am ready!
Men, what a full life you lead, and how fortunate your grands are to have you two in their lives. Does your DH enjoy the social interaction of the garage sale? That's what would happen here. Hopefully, your longer distances and high speeds will be realizable.
I've spent the week denying that I was sick and finally admitted it today and went to the doctor. He didn't really give me a diagnosis, but he did give me an antibiotic, and I hope it kicks in soon. Sleeping most of the day, horrible cough, fever,no energy. Grrrrr. I plan to be better tomorrow. All better. All fixed. I actually met my step count every day in the last week except 1 (and that was 8,000+) until today. Tomorrow . . . book club and a walk. That's the plan.
We were on the road for 9 days: first to Pittsburgh to visit sister and adorable 4 grands (1-year-old twins stole my heart, though they never warmed up enough to let me hold them), then on to Lititz to visit my brother (again--we lucked into a family dinner), and then on to NYC for 3rd birthday party for DGS. He is totally in love with the ukulele we gave him; it goes to bed with him.
Walking--very up and down. Overages while in the Big Apple. Underages at other times.
Lead my cycle group Monday morning. It was gorgeous with a light breeze and sun. I probably won't ride again until the weekend. We have a garage sale on Saturday, 8 year old has swim lessons and basketball camp so transporting all mornings eats up half the day. I have been selling a lot of books on line. It's great to find new homes for the books but a pain to have to do all the packaging, etc. I still have several hundred to do the same then donate the last ones.
I wonder where everyone else has been like Jrod, JudyCA . I wonder whatever happened to steps? We might never find out.
I had to hit "new" and scroll through two pages before I found your post. There is a definite lack of smooth flow to how this site works anymore.
IbeforeEI know Europe is out of question but put in on list anyway. Besides that I put Japan and okinawa. Guessing I should put more??? Of you don't mind me asking where are going and congrats!
I too have a son with Autism and made a late career change into education. I started as a TA in a SPED classroom and then was lucky enough to use my BA in another field (and my state's desperation for SPED teachers) to get myself a temporary teaching license. After a few years teaching there we found jobs overseas (my wife is also a teacher) and have now lived/taught in 5 countries.
As a SPED teacher, I highly value the good TA's I have worked with (although to be honest, they are not generally well-rewarded financially in most places). I highly recommend SPED/education as a career for the rewards of working with the families and students (and for the life it has given us a family, in our case).
I just got a phone call from another district today. This one is rural, only 3 schools in the entire district, fewer places to live nearby, and pays slightly less. The plus side it is 10th grade.
6th really isn't that different than 7th, so if you enjoyed that, you should be fine. Also, there is generally a good chance to move grades/teaching assignments once you are part of the school so if it's a MS then odds are good you won't be teaching just 6th for long if you don't want to.
Unless you have your heart really set on teaching high school, or think that you would hate living in the rural area, then it's pretty much a toss up. You spend a huge part of your life in the classroom so if you can't decide, then maybe that let be the deciding element.
We've lived and taught in 5 different countries now (and I've taught all grades and ages as a SPED teacher) and you generally adjust pretty quickly to a different age/grade and new location pretty quickly, if you go into it with the right mindset.
