Saturday, we practiced hill climbing in the training group. We had a big group again. Today I "lead" two others who showed up for the leisure ride on a much cooler but overcast morning. It started raining right after we did 9 miles, so my one cycle buddy got off near her place. Soon after the rain stopped and it was such a nice temp, the two of us left decided to add some more miles and explore some of the newer bike trails to see where they lead. That was fun as they wound through the college golf course and past the athletic fields. We ran into a couple dead ends as they are still working on a lot of roads on campus. It's going to be great when all that is done which I am thinking this summer. They are changing the campus from a car campus to pedestrian and cyclist friendly campus. What they have done so far is wonderful for cyclists. Of course, if I had a couple billion dollars to spend on this plan going on, I would do the same thing. lol
The rest of the week should be non eventful. We are starting road riding on Saturday with faster speed and longer miles. I am excited.
I started reading Black Stallion to the 8 year old last night. Oh, I loved those Farley books as a young girl. I know I read every horse book on the shelf at our library during those years. I think I know why I liked the stallion books reading from an older woman. I could relate to the feeling of a wild horse being "tamed" to fit into society. That's what the process is for little girls - being tamed to fit in with all the "rules of society". How's that for insight? lol
Also, the editors wanted to change -- "At the Billings' home" to At the Billings's home" and I have always thought the additional s was unnecessary and awkward.
Elaine/ret/INI agree with you on the first edit and your editors on the second. But, they're the editors, so your wisest course of action might be saying, "Thank you very much."
NovelI agree with removing the quotation marks for thoughts, as long as they are clearly demarked from the rest of the sentence. The ownership punctuation is correct either way but, I agree with you, that the single s sounds less awkward.
You may not recognize success when it happens. It's not always the thing you expected it to be. Looking back, you will realize that every day is filled with little successes.
