10,823 steps today. Great to hear from everyone. Warming up here in northern MI. The Orioles and Rose-breasted Grosbeak are here! Up today at WW. I am so tired of this up and tiny downs. Wanting that "magic"pill!!!
Bev, boy am I with you. I ate a little more yesterday and shot up 2 lbs. Some days I really hate the scale.
Elaine, I read 2 books I didn't like—-and that's unusual for me. Grisham's The Rooster Bar was so bad I was angry. And Educated got a lot of press but I thought it was a very short story stretched into a repetitive memoir.
I did my 4+ mile coastal walk this morning and took a short walk with a neighbor this afternoon. In between I did appliance ordering with my contractor and finished packing up the kitchen. More to do in bathroom.
My exciting news: yesterday I became a grandma. DS and his gf had a darling little boy on my dad's birthday, the baby shares a birthday with his great-grandfather.
First, congrats to Judy in joining the Grandma Club! I really loved being a mom but being a grandma wa ev n better although our circumstances changed years ago when we adopted all 3 siblings and became part of the rapidly growing grandparents raising grandchildren. Having that kind of responsibility at our age was nothing we ever imagined but the grandchildren are a blessing.
I managed to get a spinning class in this morning instead of riding outside due to on and off storms. We had a sub instructor who I have had before. I think she's the toughest of all the different instructors I have had. I love her toughness and expectations for us. I am pretty sure she's an outdoor rider because of her comments and visualizations that only an outdoor rider would relate to. I am a bit sore in my right knee but not in pain. I got in a little over 18 miles in 60 minutes. I walked youngest grand to school back and fourth twice today. The sidewalk slants towards the street so it's hard on my feet to walk on it. I noticed that when a I lived with that planter fasciitis for 8 months. My feet always were worse after that trek. She likes to ride her scooter home so I pull that with me at pick up.
Our community lost a 19 year old college student this week in a biking accident that hit home with all the biking community. Each time we go out we always remember that we are riding for enjoyment and people in cars and trucks often are in a hurry to reach a destination. We are no match. This time it was the cyclist's error that caused the accident. However all of us have been in situations of "almost" in an accident due to drivers' lack of attention. I have already contacted the mayor about 2 intersections that need some looking out where I have witnessed or have been the one it happened to where drivers ignore pedestrian crossings numerous times. I wish there were solutions as more and more people are biking, walking and running.
I walked 5.41 miles and my steps are currently at 14,421. On the way home, I stopped at a sporting good store and bought some IT bands (knees) and ankle/foot compression sleeves to wear when I walk. I'm hoping these will alleviate some of the discomfort while walking.
My feet decided to so some interval jogs after the first mile. I managed to control them by using trees or other structures to keep the run portion short. I forgot my compression sleeves for my shins and didn't want to have issues later. I'm wearing them now to help keep the pain away.
Elaine, I did bring my favorite old (and broken) recliner, but the new ones arrived Monday—one for the living room and one for the bedroom so the old red one has retired to recliner heaven. We haven't talked books is so long. I adore both books by Amor Towles and really liked An American Marriage. I think you recommended Bear Town and I loved it, really loved it, but my favorite of his is My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry. I loved that one. What are you reading?

Would anyone be interested in answering a few questions for me in regards to my assignment for my Master's degree? I am looking for someone in general education and someone who is in special education (so basically looking for two teachers) I am currently a graduate student in a online Master's program in Education (in Texas). I am majoring in Curriculum and Instruction and plan on teaching middle school science. My assignment is in regards to current practices in the classroom.
The questions are below for general education teachers:
1. How long have you been a general education teacher?
2. What is the key to being a great general education teacher?
3. What are some of the most common accommodations and modifications you use in the classroom?
4. Why do some general education teachers need to work well with others?
5. What are some of the more uncommon accommodations and modifications you have used in the classroom?
6. What are some of the biggest challenges you have faced in the classroom?
7. What are some of the greatest successes you have had in the classroom?
8. How do you handle challenging students?
9. Why did you want to be a general education teacher?
10. Have you encountered any students who have changed you as a person?
For those in special education, these are the questions I pose for you:
1. How long have you been a special education teacher?
2. What is the key to being a great special education teacher?
3. What are some of the most common accommodations and modifications you use in the classroom?
4. Why do some special education teachers need to work well with others?
5. What are some of the more uncommon accommodations and modifications you have used in the classroom?
6. What are some of the biggest challenges you have faced in the classroom?
7. What are some of the greatest successes you have had in the classroom?
8. How do you handle challenging students?
9. Why did you want to be a special education teacher?
10. Have you encountered any students who have changed you as a person?
Also if possible, if one could leave their last name and first initial. This is for my references page of my assignment.
Thank you for taking the time to read this as well as possibly answering the questions!
I wanted to go to the next town over (outlet malls and university town) to walk their dam trails. They forecast thunderstorms so I stayed in the hood. My mother is still at my sister's house so I decided to take the dog on my walk. He's a Brussels Griffon so he can't walk too long. By mile 3, he looked at me and let me know he was done. The weather was cool and the wind was a bit gusty but dog just couldn't go any further. He took the path back to the car. I gave him water and then we came home. When I looked at my fitbit, I was at 8,000+ steps so I had to finish my steps by walking laps in my house!
Now, the house is really quiet (just me and dog) and he's resting quietly at my feet. I do enjoy my alone time but miss my mother.
