Hi. I just recently retuned to teaching after taking off two years to be a family caregiver. I was hired as the second teacher (assistant teacher) in a private pre-school. The lead teacher is teaching her first year as a pre-k lead teacher. She made a point the first five minutes of meeting me to ask if I had my teaching credential, which I do and also have 12 years experience in my own classroom, 9 of which in kindergarten. Since then she has sown played and undermined my role in every way. The latest slight came over the holidays after the director had asked her to change her lunch schedule in order that I lead the students in a lesson before lunch. This was going very well, but the lead teacher was tremendously unhappy with me being a lead in any way. She redid the classroom schedule over break and used other teacher's names on the schedule but for my duties she only typed "assistant". This is just her latest example of undermining. Flacka Don't be saddened - use this as a learning opportunity. When you return to teaching in your own room, with your own class, remember how you felt and be mindful about how you interact with subs, resource teachers, admin, etc. Make sure they feel welcome and equal, if that is the case.
