Hi, I am reluctant to express this to other staff at my school since it is a low performing school and there is a big problem with tardiness and absences. I had a student last week (Kinder) who came to school on 2 days with a fever and chills. I sent him to the nurse and family was unable to come and get him so he was sent back to my classroom (on both occasions). By Friday I had 5 kids out sick and I was sick with the flu all weekend and was out today due to illness. How do you handle this in your classroom? He was so misreable that at one point I had him sit at his table with his head on a pillow and he slept for an hour. I am annoyed that he infected the whole class (and me!). I thought the nurse should have kept him (sort of quarantined) in the nurses office.

Thanks! Kat Kong

Kat_Kong Absolutely. I thought of bringing one of those little mask things to school and have his name on it and then he can wear it (while he is sleeping at his table spot)...kind of sad yet funny. I know it will happen again since this is a child who is frequently ill.....

Flacka In my district, a student with a fever is sent home and can't return until they are fever-free for 24 hours without medication. Ditto for vomiting and diarrhea.

I student with a fever is kept in the office until they are picked up or the end of the day. They are not returned to the classroom with a fever.

Check your district, the...See More

Judy2/CA That would not have been unusual in my school. We had a
part- time nurse who was in the office a couple of hours a
few days a week. Some years I couldn't tell you who she
was because I never saw her. In the morning we had a
"nurse tech" in the office. Sick kids sent to the office
were generally sent back unless they had a f...See More

AM It is sad and nothing is funny about it. Especially humiliating him with a mask that will do nothing unless you buy the expensive ones that don't allow viruses to get through them.

I wouldn't be upset/annoyed he was the one that got people sick. Usually by the time someone is sick, even if they stay home, they have already spread it. Espe...See More

k teacher The problem with making a little "sick corner" in your
room for the child, is when you have to leave the room for
specials, lunch, recess, etc. At least if he is in the
office lying down he can sleep which is what his body
needs.

We sometimes had parents come and pick the kids up only to
take them to work because ...See More
