One of the teachers I taught with is retiring after 35 years in the classroom. Her team members are planning a retirement party for her at a winery and the cost to attend is $25. Is it just me or is it tacky for friends to plan a party and ask the guests to pay their own way?
Cami It is standard practice for attendees to pay their own way to a retirement party. The last one I went to cost $50. Part went to a gift for the teacher. I'm sure you are not required to attend. Hopefully enough people will value the teacher's hard work and dedication over the years to give her a proper send off.

elsiev It's pretty much a standard practice to ask all attendees to chip in and pay their share of the costs as well as a chunk for a nice gift. It's not like this is a pot luck at somebodies house.
