A New Jersey school called in the police when a 3rd grader made an inappropriate comment deemed racist. This was an opportunity for a learning moment, but this wouldn't seem to be the way to approach it.

Schools shouldn't have to call cops to handle this type of stuff and if they made school policy to do this then they better sit down with admin and school board and figure something else out. Bob R/CA The article doesn't specify what he said. But really, should it matter? Is there anything that can be said (outside of a threat) that would justify the police being called?

Keyboarding Online Yeah, seriously this is not the correct approach to treat students just for inappropriate comment. Such things should be sorted out at school level only.
