I teacher second grade and the parents of one of my students are both deaf. They use asl. I am looking for a resource that can help me communicate basic information to them. I know some basic signs but need some phrases to help share daily behavior and work information. Thank you.
flacka Check with your speech and language pathologist because many of them know ASI. How was it handled for K and first grade? For conferences, your district should provide you with a translator but don't wait until the last minute, start the ball rolling now.

Melody Also, don't forget that written communication is certainly an option. A clear pre-written paragraph might be better than a fumbling attempt at signing. Of course, having a translator there would still be helpful for being able to converse back and forth.
