Yesterday was a staff development day and it emphasized a problem that I am having with coworkers. I have the staff version of Mean Girls and I'm the one being ostracized. This is my 11th year with my department and these same people have been occasionally nice to me, but for the most part, not nice to me despite my efforts of being friendly and helpful with them. I am so tired of trying to be friendly that after my very good friend in this department left because of this b.s. that I decided to stop trying to be nice/friendly and am trying to do my best job and focus on people who ARE being nice to me. Unfortunately, the only ones being nice to me are the support staff and teachers. The Mean Girls talk behind my back and have everyone on "their" side. I really don't know what I've done to deserve this because I work hard, I do my best to make good contributions to our department, and my students are doing well.
