Accumulated about 30 days of leave from all my years of work. I won't be compensated for being dedicated to my career. All those years I only took time off when absolutely necessary. Has anyone who has retired experienced the same situation? What did you do to take time off during your last year of teaching? Thanks for any advice you may have. I teach in New Mexico.
flacka I had about 80 days of unused sick leave when I retired. They paid me only 10% of what it was worth but there was no way I could or would use it all up. I did take some days off during my last year. Check with your district about getting some pay out for the unused leave. Most of my friends in other states got paid out at about 35% of the value.

Deb ms/IA In 30 years I have not taken any sick days (one c-section maternity leave and two days for minor surgery and a handful of family hospitalizations and that's it!) We have no reimbursement for not taking sick days. We can be paid for not using leave and we can carry one day over to the next year but no accumulation of days over a long period. I do do...See More
