Hi everyone, I am currently in my 17th year teaching, and I am considering a sabbatical, starting in Sept. 2018. I would be able to set it up, because of our block schedule format, so that I earn 75% pay over two years (75% in 2018 and 75% in 2019). I would be on sabbatical for a semester in 2018 (Sept. to Jan) and a semester in 2019 (Sept. to Jan). Some of my colleagues have opted to go out the whole school year at 50% pay, but I don't think I could make that work. I will take some classes while I am out. In fact, the only way I will be able to make this work is by significantly cutting back on my retirement savings during these two years. This is the hard part for me because I am, and always have been, a planner and a saver. I am currently in good health, will get to spend some time focusing on academics and traveling a bit with my wife (locally at least). Curious to hear your experiences with this decision. Any regrets?

Thanks,

TJ
