It's going to seem like I'm just b****ing, but I need some real world advice here.

Do I stay or do I quit?

I am so DAMN sick of hearing about how I just don't understand because I'm young, white, and rich. Being disrespected all day every day by my students because their parents have told them they don't have to listen to the white teacher. Searching for advice and getting headlines like "What White Teachers Are Getting Wrong in Urban Schools" and "White Teachers Fail At Reaching Black Students" There's the problem, right there. I am white, so automatically I must be clueless. Race SHOULDN'T play any part in my classroom environment, yet it is the single downfall of the entire setup.

I work my tail off coming up with fun lessons, new ways to present the material, strategies to reach every child in that room. I teach children with visual impairments, with Autism, with learning disabilities.

Kansasmom Sounds to me like you're up against a losing battle. You have a lot of passion and truly want to do a good job. Go somewhere that you can do your job. It's not worth it to be this miserable. Family first.

Novel Leave. In that kind of toxic environment, some little thing will go wrong and you will live with the aftermath for a long long time. Go somewhere you will be appreciated and fulfilled. Race is not the whole issue here...it is the lack of support from senior management and the students' families.

Bob R/CA You seem to be excessively focused on race, and your words reveal not-so-subtle biases. Have you considered they might be noticing something you're not aware of? I don't think that environment is right for you.
