The topic question is pretty much my question. I just started subbing this year and I LOVE to be in a class where everything has been planned and left. All I need to do is hand out the work, tell them it's due at the end of the hour, and maintain order.

However, today, I was left with absolutely nothing for the class to do. It's mid terms, the students I had today had already taken their tests. Basically, today was just one big 8 hour long recess. They sat and visited with each other and played a game called Silent Ball (kind of like Dodge ball but you can't make a sound). They requested a DVD but I had no access to any media player or anything like that.

Personally, I felt like the day was a huge waste of educational time. They could have and should have been learning SOMETHING. But that's just my opinion. Anyway, should I have armed myself with some sort of activity? If so, what KIND of activity?

They should have access to emergency lesson pl...See More

I'm not a good story teller though. One of the items in my bag is a pack of question cards from my Trivial Pursuit game. Also included is a writing exercise that m...See More

MyGrandfathersDaughtersDaughtersGrandmothersSonsDaughtersBrother The room was unlocked for me (this school does not hand out keys). I could not find lesson plans. I didn't want to jump to conclusions to quickly and get the teacher in trouble. I started digging deeper - probably getting a bit into his personal stuff. I went to two neighboring teachers to ask for help. When a teacher went back to the room with me,...See More
