Our school began using the Journey language Arts curriculum in November when all of the materials arrived. My team wanted to start with unit 1, lesson 1, with the theme of back to school. I felt that we should begin where the books indicate we would be in November. As it stands, we will not cover winter topics until march, based on the curriculum series. I have decided to skip ahead to the unit we actually would be on and incorporate skills from previous units that were skipped. I am shunned by my grade level and bullied. I feel that I need to do what is best for my students, but it is a daily struggle working in this environment. Any advice? Thinking about returning after the holidays makes me cringe.
Ms. J Calla, I completely understand your frustration. When I was faced with a challenge similar to this one, I taught the curriculum based on what aligned with the dates. So for example, if we were expected to cover theme on 11/1/18 -11/27/18 I would teach the content aligned with the calendar coursework dates regardless what my team decided. It is true...See More
