IcanreadMake sure when you update your EAS application that you also upload your transcripts again, even if they are there. I've heard that it is a requirement to upload them every year and will affect your application if not.
ATeacherMany of our classes are already over 30 at my school. My average class size right now is 36 and it's doubtful they will add staffing to my department.
Elementary depends on grade. I forget the exact numbers but it's like capped at 18 up through 3rd and 24 in 4-5 (in theory), although there are times the class sizes get inflated and they think and stall about adding another grade as long as possible.
hahaThat's a good thought. Most people on here are looking for DoDEA or nothing but int'l schools can offer a chance to live/teach abroad and are generally easier to get into than DoDEA. And, you can continue to be in the EAS system for DoDEA while working abroad and hoping for an offer (worked for us!).
IdaIf you are state certified to teach something, you need half as many college credits (still specific ones: ex: World History), but not the entire amount. Some states allow you to add certification by passing a praxis exam. So then Dodea will give you certifications if you have half the number of credits.
In the following two or three years I have updated my account but, nothing. In that time I have taught additional courses including multiple AP courses, added an area of endorsement, completed my masters, and been awarded an international fellowship.
Do applications get more attention when they are newer?
Also, now that I am 2-3 years older, I am thinking I would leave possibly leave the DOD after a few years if I got in. I am curious if someone in the system has an idea of a minimum number of years you would say it is worth it to go through the process of joining.
hahaNo problem. International Schools Review has a free forum (and a paid forum and school reviews sent in by teachers). TES UK has a free, useful and fairly active forum for Teaching Overseas. I also read and post on both.
hahaPS. Buying a house is not necessarily a deal breaker. We have twice sold houses to move overseas (and were lucky enough to get a good deal both times).
I guess I'm ju...See MoreI'm hoping some of you can maybe give me some hope to the end of all this waiting! Tentative offer September 14th, and still waiting to go through the OPM investigation! I know my investigation closed on the 12th of December, and I'm just waiting for a decision on their part. HR and security have just told me to be patient.
I guess I'm just looking for some similar timelines to maybe get some hope that this will end soon!!
JNurseIt honestly feels good to know that this timeline is out of the ordinary. You wouldn't know it based on the responses I've been getting. In HR's last email they "strongly reminded me to be patient". I was starting to feel like I'm crazy!
Having a non-citizen spouse is quite common and is not a problem, as long as your spouse is a regular persom with regular paperwork. Processing visas for DoDEA locations will just require a little more time and paperwork.
A non-citizen spouse is not the difficult part in your plans. The difficult part is getting hired in SY 19/20. Very unlikely.
Either way, 2019/2020 is looking like there will be fewer than usual new hires due to placing some excess teachers and management's lovely idea to increase teacher to student ratios resulting in further excess teachers needing to be placed (details/extent of the damage unknown at this point). There will likely be SOME outside hires but numbers/subject area/openings are always impossible to predict.
The following year should be better (hopefully) and you would be in a slightly better position with another year of experience under your belt.
Are there any mid...See MoreI am reading the DODEA requirements and trying to figure out how my education/experience will translate and am wondering about middle school science. I received a degree in Cell/Molecular Bio with a Chemistry minor and now teach 7/8 science with my multiple subject credential and a supplemental authorization in science.
Are there any middle grade DOD science teachers who could share what qualified them?
somedayI am pretty sure the Earth science just falls under the general science heading. I have no earth science coursework and am currently teaching it but I did qualify for middle and secondary general science based on my credits in science.
hahaI think you're right. I looked back at the categories for the last couple of transfer lists and the only MS science listed is the code for general science (230).
IcanreadYes, when applying you will upload copies of your transcripts. Once you receive a job offer, you will need to order official transcripts that will be mailed to HR.
somedayAgree with Icanread what I did was order a couple copies of each to home and left them in sealed envelopes except the copy I scanned in. When I accepted my offer I sent all the sealed envelopes in one batch to HR with signature required. I had the backups just in case something happened.
