@haha, since you mentioned breaking contract I do have a few questions about that. A colleague of mine left mid-semester last semester. She really left us in the lurch, including me having to finish directing the school play for her (she was the theatre teacher). I did meet up with her last week, and expressed that I was concerned about timing of getting a job...in particular, if it looks like DODEA isn't going to offer me one, then I accept a 2nd choice ,and then get an offer from DODEA. She seemed to think it would be perfectly fine to break contract , even if I had actually signed a formal contract. She's younger than I am, and I understand the younger generation does this thing called "ghosting" as well as walking out in the middle of the contract (which she did). So....what's the general consensus? To me it lacks integrity to walk out on a contract you signed, but is it more acceptable now than it was in my day?

ATeacher When I applied for DODEA, I "forgot" to sign my contract and my HR department never noticed. When DODEA sent me an offer, I didn't have a contract to break. :)

Icanread That was sneaky!

For me, even if I had to pay the $2000 to break my contract, it would have been worth it financially. I almost doubled my pay when I joined DoDEA, plus housing/utilities are paid for. It has been a great financial move for us!

I turned them both down because I had just signed a contract with a new district and thought it would be unethical to break it. Now my principal knows that I will always have an open app with DOD and i will take any calls that come my way. But we were in a unique situa...See More

Icanread Make sure when you update your EAS application that you also upload your transcripts again, even if they are there. I've heard that it is a requirement to upload them every year and will affect your application if not.
