My first day will be January 18th... I am stressing about when I will receive my first paycheck. Can anyone tell me how long it took to get your first check? When do we get paid? Is it every other Friday? Is this week a pay week (the 22nd)? I am just trying to plan ahead, as I will be moving by myself with 4 little ones.
uh89But be prepared. When I first started with DoDDS in Japan I arrived early August, started teaching mid/late August, but did not get my first paycheck until early October.
I ❤ spedThe 8th is the start of a pay period so if everything goes smoothly your first pay will be the 26th. A lot depends on HR and your school secretary. If you receive post allowance, etc. you will have to take care of that yourself after you get your CAC card. Good luck. Hopefully you have a good sponsor to help you!
haha8th graders can take Algebra I for high school credit under certain circumstances. I'm not sure whether the teacher has to have the Secondary math certification or not. As DodeaHopeful said, there is no separate Algebra certification offered for teachers.
Hello guys, I'm a new DODEA teacher. Quick question about step increases. My start date was December 16th, 2016. I started on a step 2. Will I advance to step 3 December 16th of this year?
hahaAlthough that was from a DoDEA (overseas school). This is one is from a fact sheet about Guam which is DDESS (considered a stateside in many respects):
Full-time employees must complete at least 120 or more workdays to be eligible for a step increase. There are 30 steps (0-29) with no longevity steps.
HelpOthersSo, after the days have been met, as Haha pointed out, I believe everyone's step increase occurs at the same time, at the beginning of each school year (if there will be an increase). This way, your pay will be set for the school-year and divided equally by the number of paychecks you are expected to receive.
I'm notice that drivers ed is always listed on the teaching category lists but i did not see it on the application site choices. Did I miss it? Is it still taught?
somedayI am endorsed in it with college coursework in Florida but I didn't see it as an option when applying. Is it something you pick up if you happen to be in a location that has a need. Does DODEA still certify teachers for it?
hahaThey have teachers teaching it so I am guessing yes they still certify in it. It is a very small niche area so I am assuming it is not something they will normally actively search for in a new teacher.
1. how far after I start working will my insurance benefits kick in?
<...See MoreI finally received an email from HR stating that my background investigation had cleared and asked me how soon I could report to work. (This is for a stateside position. I'll be moving from Florida to Fort campbell). I'm wondering just a Cooke of thin b's as I prepare:
1. how far after I start working will my insurance benefits kick in?
2. what has been everybody's experience with the 1st paycheck? Does everybody really have to wait the full 6 weeks before seeing their first check?
I just got a TO and I am freaking out, I am so worried that this mistake will prevent me from passing the background check. The irony is that I will be in a better place financially if I get the job and my creditors will receive a bigger monthly payment.
I hope I dont get DQ'ed for this.....
Do DoDEA teacher redo the background check every 5 years?
So positions, like educational technologists or those dealing with IT systems may be required to hold a security clearance. In those cases, they look at your financial records to see if you could ever been compromised by a foreign power.
Most likely you are fine, especially if you are in a classroom position.
Yes, it is ironic that you could be denied the best opportunity to get yourself out of this position and do better by your creditors (kind of like when the banks are happiest to lend money to the people who need it the least).
Hang in there and try not to stress TOO much about it. In theory we are supposed to go through the process every 5 years but it seems to happen sooner than that, or not at all. In any case, if you make it through this one, any subsequent checks should be a peace of cake.
HelpOthersCongratulations! Your children will be eligible to attend DoDEA schools, but the one they attend may depend on where exactly you live. I suggest checking with the registrar at the school where you will be working.
I have lived in Japan for about five years, and I worked my way up to Assistant University Professor with my Masters Degree.
I am happy with my position, but it has always been my dream to work for Dodea Pacific. I recently took my Praxis II( in Osaka) and added my teacher experience to my Social Studies 9-12 teaching license that I recieved 6 years ago before coming to Japan.
I have uploaded all the information to the EAS Dodea system, along with the three required referrals from past employers.
I would really like an opporuntity to work at Iwakuni, or another base in Japan. I was wondering if anyone could help shed light on a few questions I had.
1. Besides applying to the USAJOBS website and waiting until something to match my credentials, is thier anything proactive that I can do?
2. I have my social studies 9-12 teaching license. Would you advise I take as many Praxis Exams as I can to become qualified to teach a range of subjects( Social Studies middle school, English middle school, etc.)
Any advice for someone already living in Japan who wants to work for Dodea Pacific?
As for being a local hire, yes you would likely be considered local unless you attempt to conceal your circumstances which probably not be advisable (and what would you do about your work experience for the last 5 years?).
Again fortunately, I don't think just being local would count against you. In fact, principals are required to consider all qualified local hires BEFORE looking stateside. The only possible negative from your situation could be teaching at university rather than in a K-12 environment (and some principals may not consider that a negative).
I know I have seen this information before so I apologize that it is a repeat. I had an interview this past Thursday night. On Friday, my references received emails from the principal and immediately responded. About how long does it normally take to receive a tentative offer (if one is coming)? Thanks!!
hahaYou might try shooting off an email off to the principal before the winter break and getting some kind of answer so you don't drive yourself crazy over the holidays.
HelpOthersMake sure your phone number is correct on your application and that you have the phone with you and charged at all times. Accept all calls. Delete the home phone from your application if you have it listed.
