Hello guys, I'm a new DODEA teacher. Quick question about step increases. My start date was December 16th, 2016. I started on a step 2. Will I advance to step 3 December 16th of this year?

haha Are you DoDEA stateside or overseas? Am I right in assuming that you were hired with two years of experience? I recall something about a minimum number of days required to get credit for a step but don't recall the exact details. I would guess that you won't get your step increase until next year but could be way off.

haha This is from an older document but probably still has some validity for you:

Credit for a school year of service is granted provided that the educator has been in a pay status at least 150 working days during the last previous school year as a DODEA educator for which a step increase has not been granted.

haha Although that was from a DoDEA (overseas school). This is one is from a fact sheet about Guam which is DDESS (considered a stateside in many respects):

Full-time employees must complete at least 120 or more workdays to be eligible for a step increase. There are 30 steps (0-29) with no longevity steps.

HelpOthers So, after the days have been met, as Haha pointed out, I believe everyone's step increase occurs at the same time, at the beginning of each school year (if there will be an increase). This way, your pay will be set for the school-year and divided equally by the number of paychecks you are expected to receive.
