You should be able to activate your application in Feb or March when everyone receives the e-mail to update their applications. If it is not active again at that point, I suggest e-mailing and asking them to activate if for the 2018-2019 school-year.
The background checks and the official passports will usually take more than 30 days. In the meanwhile, you can collect all the addresses where you have lived the past 10 years, people you know well enough to vouch for you and a list of non-US-citizens you have as close friends or family. You can also obtain tourist passports now. Good luck.
1) I have a Bachelors in Elementary Education and a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction. I've been certified without interruption in Oklahoma for 17 years, but we do not (or at least didn't back then) use the PRAXIS for certification. Will I be required to take the PRAXIS test for a position with DOD schools?
2) How many years will transfer into the DOD system? For example, some states will only acknowledge 5-10 years of my experience to place me on the salary schedule. What's the DOD policy?
My first year as an empty-nester is next year, and I'm going to make myself available to teach wherever I am called. Having that type of mobility is new and exciting, but I want to be sure all of my ducks are in a row.
MyDODSo if I am certified in ESL (and passed a Praxis) because I took 12 graduate hours, that is half of the 24 hrs required by DODEA. Does this qualify me to teach ESL? Or am I understanding this wrong?
You can indicate in your application whether you applying only for Stateside (DDESS) positions and whether you are interested in Puerto Rico or Guam. You can also apply for overseas positions and can indicate preferences even though you are agreeing that DoDEA can move you wherever they need you if you are applying overseas.
Even if you apply for all those locations now, you can decline interviews for locations that do not interest you if you are requested for an interview during these first two years, when maybe you would prefer to be in the same time zone. On the other hand, if you accept an interview but decline an offer, you will not be interviewed/offered another position for the remainder of that school-year, so only interview if you plan to accept.
Most people wait several years for an offer or even an interview, so it does not hurt to get your application active sooner rather than later. Make sure your phone number is one that you will answer (not home phone/work phone- use mobile) and your e-mail address needs to be one you will see the reminder for updates and will get information from principals or other school personnel asking if you are interested in interviewing for a particular location, etc. When you update your application, make sure you upload your certificate(s) and transcript(s) again even if they have not changed. Just delete the ones previously posted. The year to the right should indicate the year you are wishing to be considered for employment.
teacherlife62411I was offered a tentative offer to teach middle school ELA in Fort Campbell (Tennessee/Kentucky border). I am waiting on my security clearance now and wondering just how long it will all take...
1) Is there still a cap on how many years a teacher can be at an Oconus station? It used to be 5 yrs.
2) There used to be strict rules about hiring Conus hires for Oconus positions, but now it seems like it would be easier to get hired from a Conus to Oconus position. Is there no longer a mandatory work/waiting period in which Conus hires must wait until they can transfer Oconus?
3) Does the LQA pay out at a specific flat rate depending on the installation, or is it a cap rate in which you will be given depending on your actual bills? Do you only get what you can prove you incur on average, or get the full amount and save the rest?
4) How does the annual paid flight home work? Can this only be taken during the summer, or is it just a once a year reimbursement in which the employee can use anytime of year?
5) If your official passports don't arrive in time and your family all have tourist passports, can you go ahead and use them to get to your post?
I have an ESOL and Spanish licence K-12 plus AP certification. I have been in the system 4 years and I got two referrals and one interview in the last 6 months. I was wondering how marketable I am. Was just a fluke or by now I am on the top of the list ? I have been put for 18 years I am itching for a change. Thanks!
1. Is this a tentative offer even thoygh it says "formal" offer letter?
2. One of the questions on the forms asked if I have been fired or forced to resign from any job in the previous five years. I put yes, because the school where I was last, changed principals and the new one and I didn't see eye-to-eye and he didn't like me. All of my evaluations were always stellar, and any of the other assistant principals can attest to the work that I did. Is this going to mess up my chances if he gives me a bad reference, because I'm pretty sure he would, given the opportunity, because he really did not like me. My current principal actually told me the reference that he gave me was awful and she was really glad that she hired me anyway. He actually fired Any teacher that was not tenured (that was either married or older) and replaced them with young 20 year old teachers.
I just don't want to get my hopes up if this could Stoll blow up in my face. :(
IdaI am pretty sure that you just need your current principal and then other references can be assistants, curriculum specialists, people who know you as a professional.
hahaIf the assistant principal has worked so far for your time at that school I would ride it out as far as you can. Generally they would contact whoever is on your application (although they sometimes ask for further references).
