Hi everyone! I'm in the early stages of looking at options with DOD schools. I understand getting into the system is a challenge, and really, just looking at all of the information is a little overwhelming. I tried calling their recruitment office today with questions, but it went to an answering machine that wasn't accepting messages. So, here I am with a few initial questions! I appreciate any assistance offered!

1) I have a Bachelors in Elementary Education and a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction. I've been certified without interruption in Oklahoma for 17 years, but we do not (or at least didn't back then) use the PRAXIS for certification. Will I be required to take the PRAXIS test for a position with DOD schools?

2) How many years will transfer into the DOD system? For example, some states will only acknowledge 5-10 years of my experience to place me on the salary schedule. What's the DOD policy?

LiteracyRocks someday, thank you! I looked, and should qualify for Elementary 1-3, Compensatory Reading and Compensatory Math. Maybe that will increase my chances.

LiteracyRocks I have an additional question. I'll probably have ten million additional questions. :) When you apply, can you specify CONUS only? Or can/should you be open to CONUS or overseas, wherever the need? With my son leaving for college, I would prefer CONUS first, but my hope is eventually to be overseas.

haha Agree with everything posted. You get 10 years credit and start on step 1 so you would start on step 11 if you are trying to calculate exactly. You don't need state certs/endorsement since DoDEA only counts credit hours. State certification does generally mean you would only need half of the normally required hours.

MyDOD So if I am certified in ESL (and passed a Praxis) because I took 12 graduate hours, that is half of the 24 hrs required by DODEA. Does this qualify me to teach ESL? Or am I understanding this wrong?

HelpOthers With the information you presented, I would assume you will not need to take the PRAXIS. When you complete the application, it will not ask for Praxis scores, if you are exempt. For DoDEA America positions including Guam and Puerto Rico (American Territories), you would start on step 5 (they only accept 5 years and the first step with no experience...See More
