Does this mean that HR is processing my application? I sure hope that is what this means, because I am so eager to start. Anyone have any insight?
It is true that if admin decide they are against you (or an influential p...See MoreBetween my spouse and I we have been at 4 different DoDEA schools. I would rate our experiences as 1 great, 2 good, 2 fair. So much does depend on admin, some of the core veteran teachers, the parents, command, etc. The students have generally been just fine overall.
It is true that if admin decide they are against you (or an influential parent is out to get you and you have a weak admin) then your life can be miserable for a while. Then again, that can be true anywhere in the world.
does anyone know if the LLI ( level literacy intervention) position is on the same payscale as a classroom teacher? Thinking about transitioning into this position but unsure of the salary. Thanks so much!
My father remarried after my mother passed and I have 4 step-siblings I barely know and only met once at the wedding. I live far from them. Do I need to list them and provide information on them?
1. If I get an oversees offer, and do my two years (or 1 depending on the assignment) is it a problem being considered for state side positions? Meaning to say, is it, once you're abroad you stay abroad?
2. Does working in the system open you up to positions that newbies don't normally get? I seem to have only been interviewed by Japan and Korea, though I see many working in the UK and I hear of those working in Iceland and Italy.
3. Is it possible to take additional coursework in, for example, School Leadership once teaching with the DOD? I have my MSed plus 15, though I'd like additional courses for enrichment and salary bumps. Is there a discounted rate for DOD employees for college courses? And, what online schools does the DOD work with (if any)?
Regarding transport and costs, is it common for stateside teachers to put belongings in private storage, in my case renting a unit in Staten Island so as not to have to transport everything? I'm guessing that some may see that as defeating the purpose of having COLA. Not me however, because living in NYC, a 250.00 per month storage unit would be peanuts compared to the high cost of rent here.
You generally do have the option of putting belongings into storage rather than ship them at gov't expense (but have never done so don't really know the details)..
My mother resides in an Assisted Living facility in Staten Island, and she was a victim of the 9/11 attacks. She has many physical and mental health issues that are being addressed through medication, therapy and by a helpful staff.
In the event, however, she should fall critically ill or pass during my time abroad, am I allowed to return to the states to handle her affairs?
I have been waiting and waiting for her to become more sound in her health and that never seems to happen, and I feel I cannot wait any longer to take advantage of the wonderful DOD opportunities.
hahaMany teachers do go back to the states for short or extended periods of time for family, medical and personal reasons. Sometimes they have a lot of accumulated leave and sometimes they take Leave Without Pay to take care of things. It's pretty common.
Those who have accepted a tentative offer, what is the average waiting time for security check, paper work etc. Just trying to get a ball park of what the next few months look like.
rcoachSounds like we all have differing scenarios. I honestly feel like I have been waiting forever. :) I wish there was someway the process would go quicker. Being in the "in between" is difficult. Best wishes to you all!
Also, what can I do to have a course considered toeards the total credits, it at the initial evaluation and re evaluation it was not counted in towards the total number of credits I already have in the subject area? TIA
