Hi everyone I am currently a teacher for DoDea stateside at an americas school. I recently got referred for a position in germany, however through some connections I have made I learned that someone in the applicant pool has VA preference which I don't. Does that mean I basically have no shot at the job? Thanks for any help!
All things being equal, they should hire the vete...See MoreNot necessarily. The weight given to veterans' preference depends on who you ask, what type of preference, etc. The overall impact of the preference can also depend on the quality of the interviews and the overall experience, education and other qualifications of the candidates in the pool.
All things being equal, they should hire the veteran, but candidates are rarely completely equal. If they always hired the veteran, there would be a lot more veterans in the DoDEA teacher workforce. Good luck and hang in there.
I was told that I am missing some upper level credit hours in uni courses to be qualified in one of my certified subjects. How do I determine if a college course will meet "upper level" standards? For instance, one course that was accepted was a 500 level class. Do all "upper level" courses need to be 500 level?
I'm considering opening my application to all locations in hopes to have two qualifications I've added for re-evaluation checked. I added the needed courses and documentation in December. I would hate to miss an opportunity in my desired locations by finding out I'm still not qualified for some reason when a position does open, as hr stated that is when they'll re-evaluate. But I want make sure I won't cause any issues with my application by changing the locations available.
I originally filled out the online application a year ago. In October my attachments were flagged for re-evaluation based on re-uploads of two documents. My status has said pending re-evaluation for the previous 6 months. From what I can tell, all the required documentation has been uploaded. Can I please have confirmation that all of my certifications and endorsements are acceptable? I am endorsed in PE, Health, and English, and I want to make sure my application reflects all three.
This was the response I received: Your application is active. Based on this status, you are available for consideration on vacancies for which you have expressed interest. Your qualifications may not be finalized until we are in the process of issuing a referral list. Should you be referred for a vacancy, you will receive an e-mail notification and may be contacted for an interview.
My confusion is how would I possibly be picked for a referral list if my qualifications are still being evaluated a year later and my certifications say pending? Has anyone else had this issue or have any insight to put my mind at ease? Thank you
It's very, very possible that they use different sets of criteria each time they create a referral list.
And we know with almost 100% certainty that referral notifications are not always emailed to the relevant applicants when referral lists are created. Many posters here have reported not receiving referral notifications, or receiving them weeks, or even months late.
Storm's problem may have been cleared up, or maybe it wasn't. Or maybe the problem never even existed.
Based on the limited information that HR shares, we can never really know.
Applicants sit in darkness, waiting for a referral. Getting a referral is taken as evidence that the system is working. But I hesitate to extrapolate too far, with such scant evidence.
I had a residency permit in korea and lived there a little under 2 years ago and have been living stateside since then. Am i ineligible to be hired by dodea as a teacher? Thanks.
hahaI can't say for certain (because I can't really keep up with the rule changes/rule enforcement), but I believe you would be fine, since you have been back in the states for over a year.
hahaIt's true (at least in the past) that CV's and/or cover letters were not required nor encouraged as attachments on EAS. If the system allows you to upload them now, I guess they wouldn't do any harm, but have no real way of knowing that be true.
I was hired in November 2020. I just received an email saying that I need to update my EAS application. My question is: In the address section, do I add my actual address in Japan or my APO? I still have my home in the USA. Is the Japan address permanent or temporary?
hahaOK. Then they should probably just join/post on the DoDEA Teachers Interested page then and can get the benefit of multiple people answering their questions (including me probably).
