I'm looking for more information. I am currently a local hire OCONUS and we will be moving to Alaska this summer. My husband could retire in two years (20 years). I am considering applying for DoDEA again once we arrive stateside but want to ensure that even as a military spouse I would pick up rights. My goal is to go on LWOP at the end of the year. Anyone else go through this? I've spoke to one teacher but would love more information.
intrepidtravelr For what it's worth, I would definitely try to get back to your current duty station ;)

primarypod You have to be in the US for one calendar year to be eligible to have your own transportation agreement, LQA, etc. There are very few exceptions ever made.

HelpOthers Alaska does not have any DoDEA schools. If you apply to DoDEA schools within the USA, there is no LQA, but after living/working in the USA for at least a year, you could apply for positions overseas and hope to receive the benefits. However, I am not sure how that works with Leave without Pay and for how long you can take LWOP.
