I am curious if anyone has received referrals or offers for an elementary teacher position? Still having yet to hit a referral list, I am hoping they haven't really started pursuing traditional elementary teachers yet.
ms896I have been on a few referral lists for elementary teacher positions in the last month or so. I just accepted a tentative offer for a fourth grade position a few days ago.
I was referred on April 3rd, interviewed on April 21. To those of you who interviewed during this period. What has been your experience with any responses?
So, after 3 years in the system I'm going to have my first Interview for MS/HS General Science. Im going to spend the next hour reading through y'alls questions and answers, Im a few months behind. Any interview prep suggestions.
Those of you who have gotten a tentative offer, or an offer in general, we're you completely surprised? Like you didn't expect it at all? After interviews, I always think that I will never get an offer. I'm really hoping to be completely surprised!
I spent 9 years teachin...See MoreI was completely surprised! First off, I didn't feel to confident after my interview. Second, my tentative offer came in 2 or 3 weeks after the interview. I had basically moved on decided to check my EAS on day and saw it was frozen. A few minutes later the offer email arrived and chaos ensued! It was a great time!
I spent 9 years teaching at a very large public high school in a district that had a difficult time keeping teachers. Teaching for DoDEA has been such a blessing even though I'm not overseas, I can't complain.
In answer to my question about time frame, the principal said he still had one more person to interview, and "they have all been excellent candidates, just like you", which I took to be the kiss of death. In mental/emotional self-defense, I had convinced myself it wasn't going to happen, so as not to be devastated if I didn't get it, so when the email came, we were pleasantly shocked.
Someone had advised before the interview that I really needed to sell myself, which wasn't really my style. I did take that to heart, with the stakes being that high. After the interview was basically over, we got cut off and I called back one more time just to make one last sales pitch as to why they should hire me (e.g. had worked with all age groups and levels of disability, had acted in leadership roles, had lived overseas and could hit the ground running from day one with little culture shock, etc.). I have no idea if that made a difference, but it did give me some comfort/peace in that I had given 100%, whatever the final outcome.
interview, but I'm still deciding due to the location. I have a two year old son, so I have to be wise. So my question is about transfer rounds. I specifically asked him about that and he said that transferring worldwide is possible. Others on our board have said differently. So, not I'm confused. How do transfer rounds usually work? Do those people have priority? Thanks!!!
I agree that since I have been...See MoreI seem to recall that my 2nd year in they brought the transfer round "back" in limited form after a two(?) year hiatus. Since then, other than these past (two?) years, I feel like there was some type of transfer program every year (except one?), but wouldn't swear to it (the years do start to blend together).
I agree that since I have been in, the transfer round has been a token program at best to keep teachers/the union pacified, until they realized that they didn't need to really do even that, given the current power imbalance between labor and management/federal gov't.
Can someone verify my memory, as yes, they years do blend together.
I am confident there were no transfer rounds in
2013 2014 2019 2020
That's fully 50% of the past eight years. Did I miss a year? Was another transfer round also postponed/canceled/eliminated? Are there mistakes on my list?
The salary didn't include any years of experience, how do I go about having them review that?
Also it says not to do anything like quit your job yet, at what point should I tell my boss? They are going to have a really hard time finding someone its a big shortage area where I am.
Thank you to this group for all your guidance the last two years, we are headed to England!
CordeliaI agree with your interpretation Teach8311. The sentence's key word is "and." The "and have a break..." part is all one phrase. The "reside in the US" is a separate phrase. It doesn't indicate how long you must reside in the US.
RJIf they are going from OCONUS to DDESS, that is not a transfer. They are joining the pool with everyone else and are lucky enough to get picked up. I can't speak for the management directed moves, that's highly unusual.
IcanreadTeachers could have gotten "transfers"(management directed move) to stateside schools if their positions were excessed and there were no overseas positions available for them. Many are considering going stateside then reapplying for only locations they want to go to. I've even considered it!
IcanreadLike RJ said, the salary is the same. Most specialist positions like ESL, ET, gifted, literacy support, and math support are hired from within. However, it doesn't hurt to add certs.
Just wondering... If I'm already a DoDEA teacher, and just accepted a tentative offer, does the background check still take as long? It was less than three years since my original Equip. Do they do it all again? I remember that being the longest part of the process.
hahaIt "should" speed up the process but there is no guarantee. But, there are many stories of teachers having recent background checks (current teachers, new hires, moving from sub to full time, etc.) and being required to do them all over again.
RJIt's so hit or miss. When I went from DoDDS to DDESS, my equip was due, but they never updated it. Another colleague had to wait the whole school year! They assigned her a line of sight, so she could work. She was also internal. Another one only took a few months and was done by the time school started.
