I updated my application this week even though I haven't gotten the usual email yet. When the email comes, am I going to need to do it again or since I just did it I'm good?
hahaTough to say for certain. Generally, they reset the green checks/finalized status for everyone's EAS before/when they send out the email. So, it will all depend on the timing of that process. When in doubt, go back and check after the email comes out.
How much are the supervisor evaluations weighted against your interview, qualifications, and background? Is it possible or likely to still have good chances of getting hired even if they don't have great/good evaluations from their supervisors?
So, hiring principals will generally have their pick of candidates and if several candidates are relatively equal, then they could choose the one with the best recommendations. Or, they could trust their own gut more and pick who THEY think is the best/best fit.
Is is a deal breaker? No. Could it be a limiting factor. Sure, it could be.
TeachinStateside teacher here...I was not required to sign a mobility agreement because they did not pay to move me. However, an ISS I spoke with was surprised that they didn't move me since they paid to move her.
Of course, if you are not coming in with federal experience to increase the steps past the normal entry step (5) then it wouldn't be quite as rosy (but still probably doable/worth it, depending on where you are coming from).
The alternative certificati...See MoreI am currently a substitute teacher with DODEA working at an OCONUS school. I have a BA but not in education. I am considering an alternative certification program to get certified to teach. Does anyone know if DODEA accepts alternative teaching certificates? Or what how they are viewed when it comes to hiring?
The alternative certification program is clearly the quickest way to get certified but I'm not sure if it's looked down upon.
I have also looked into a Masters of Education program, but since I do not have an education degree, I would have to take several courses (literature, government..) just to be eligible to start the Masters program.
Even having a state certification in a given subject area will not excuse you from the college credit requirements (although it can halve the numbers of normally required credits in many cases (15 vs. 30, 12 vs. 24).
If you have a BA in any subject, you will generally not need another degree, but you would need to meet the credit requirements and either a student teaching experience or have one year of full time teaching experience.
What area would you most want to teach? Take a look at the specific requirements for that subject area and then figure out what you would need to meet all of the requirements (credit hours, do you have any towards the requirements now, would the alt. cert. program count towards the student teaching requirement, would it lead to state certification which could then lower the numbers of credits required, etc.).
I had asked about my quals still being in pending , here was the response:
We will start pulling referral lists for the 2020-2021 school year in late February/early March. As far as your pending qualifications those will be looked at by licensure once your name is pulled onto a referral list for a Target Job you selected. The Target jobs that you selected that you aren't qualified for will not be re-evaluated until you update your application with the information they requested.
Here is the response to the referral process. I hope this info helps anyone who has been curious!
Referral lists are generated based on the vacancy position and which
applicants chose that job. For example, a vacancy will come through for a 1st
grade teacher in Fort Bragg. A referral list will be generated for all
applicants who have qualified or have qualifications pending or needing
re-evaluation that chose Fort Bragg as one of their target locations. The list
is broken down into 4 categories. The first 3 categories are for current
permanent employees to DoDEA or the federal service. The last category is for all external applicants (not current permanent government employees). If the list of external candidates is longer than 25 applicants long, there is a
cut-off point threshold. This means that depending on what applicants total
score, they may or may not make that referral list. I will say Grades 1-6 tend
to have high external applicant numbers so a cutoff score is used. The cutoff
score varies but is usually around whatever the 25th applicant's total score
is. Other variables to take into consideration is Veterans Preference and
Military Spouse Preference. An applicant with Vet Pref or MSP is a mandatory
hire UNLESS someone has a higher score in the external applicant category.

I kind of assumed the solution was to just get some experience, but timing-wise now would be perfect for me. Why does patience have to be a virtue??? Lol
As far as taking classes goes - does anyone have any recommendations for a good place to take some classes that aren't too expensive? I saw some recommend PDI, but I didn't really see any history classes on their site. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong spot?
DeniseDon't feel bad guys Ive been with DoDEA for 7 years have their certificate ASHA AND Florida state license. I let my Florida teaching certificate go as if I go back there I can work of my med license. They wanted to know when I could produce a state certificate when I tried to update my application last week.
