I was evaluated as fully qualified in MS/HS US & World History & Social Studies but I haven't received any referrals/interviews. I have concluded that being qualified does not automatically lead to referrals. What, then, determines whether or not one gets referred? Are the applicants weighted somehow? Does it depend on the number of vacancies/applicants? And, finally, does anyone have any idea about the number of vacancies for History/Social Studies? Thanks..
happyteacher Everything I have seen on this site suggests that no one knows how applicants are ranked, but that years of experience and the number of qualifications you have can help move you up the list. It has also been suggested that History/Social Studies jobs are few and far between and there are tons of applicants for them.

haha It's true that SS by itself can be a tough way to get into DoDDS. Positions do come up but they are generally combined with other areas. There was at least one pure SS position in the transfer round in Japan that was filled, so in theory that left a SS sized hole somewhere in the world but it could be combined with other areas by the time they star...See More

happyteacher Isn't it hard to transfer TO Japan? Meaning, unless you are in Bahrain or Turkey, isn't it hard to get high enough on the transfer list?

haha As amazing as Japan is, many people still follow the allure of Europe, even if the actual locations may not be the European ideal they are thinking of (but still you're in Europe and relatively close to many of those dream locations/experiences).
