happyteacher Did they indicate in the comments that you are state certified in EI, PreSchool Disabled, and Moderate/Severe?

I AM state certified in my state, but that just doesn't transfer over in all areas. This might help others understand some of their certs as well. It's long, but it's from the horses mouth...lol. Thanks again TEACH!! (The Laverne recommendation looks like it will be a great resource).

"On your application and during the rating process, DoDEA recognizes only two state endorsements as comparable to DoDEA's teaching categories: Its Mildly to Moderately Learning Impaired teaching category is accepted as comparable to Arkansas' Special Ed Inst Specialist endorsement only. DoDEA recognizes the second endorsement, Arkansas' Special Ed Early Child Inst Specialist as comparable to DoDEA's Preschool Children (ages 3-5) with Disabilities. Often state reciprocity is misunderstood and reciprocity does not guarantee that a license in one state can be "traded in" for a license in another state or recognized by another state, the latter being DoDEA. What a state department of education indicates as what an educator "can teach" or "may teach" is subject to agency discretion on comparability and the burden of acceptance lies with DoDEA.

Natalie, you possess strong course work in special education, but it is the course work and semester hour requirements in each desired specialty area that has prevented you from qualifying in other DoDEA special education teacher categories. For example, you do not present a state endorsement in emotional impairments/behavior disorders that is acceptable to DoDEA and 12 semester hours directly related in the specialty area of emotional/behavioral disorders is required. You present 6-2/3 semester hours in behavior disorders on your Capella University official transcripts and 3 semester hours in EI/BD on your UOP official transcripts for a total of 9-2/3 semester hours in EI/BD. DoDEA converts all quarter hours (Capella) to semester hours using the 2/3 rule.

However, for moderately to severely learning impaired, you do not present a state endorsement in severely learning impaired that is acceptable to DoDEA and your official transcripts reflect 6 semester hours in severe/intellectual disabilities, i.e., UoP's SPE 544 and SPE 556.

Natalie, you have a good distribution of course work in special education, but, again, it's the 12 semester hours in each specialty area that is preventing the qualification to be swung in your desired specialized areas.

For Preschool Handicapped, your official transcripts reflect no course work in early childhood education (ages 3-5) although you possess a state endorsement in early childhood special education. Along with your state endorsement in early childhood special education, a minimum of 6 semester hours directly related to preschool or early childhood education must be met.

DoDEA does not recognize "testing out" or other states competency scores.

Experience of having taught special education cannot satisfy nor substitute for the required course work and semester hours as outlined."

happyteacher Ok, so here are your best options for increasing your certs. 1) EI - Without them recognizing state endorsement, you need 12 credits. You have 9.
