Hello all, I'm new to DODEA! Can anyone give me info on the Federal Education Association (FEA)? Is it expensive to join the association and would you guys say that it is worth the expense? Thank you.

HelpOthers There is not lot the union can do for you while you are provisional status (first two years), but after that, it is well worth it. Ask your sponsor though, maybe there are good reasons to join the first two years. The first two years, they can choose not to have you back for any reason. They do not need a reason.

HelpOthers Once you have made it past the first two years, YES, join the union. They can help with debt grievances, help with the transfer round, pay, and much more.

haha It is around $600-700 a year depending on location. I joined even when on provisional status. You don't have the same level of rights during that time but the union can still represent you for anything that comes up during the two years and in general they have fought for many teacher benefits and rights over the years.

Scholar I would say it's worth the expense even as provisional. I know sometimes people don't know the regulations but union reps are all over it.
