So I am a new hire from the US to the Pacific.... I have my husband and three daughters. One of my daughters is 18 and is attending college out of state. Will she still be included under a dependent for LQA? so I would have 4 dependents? Also does she have to initially flight over with us to be eligible for the educational travel? She will be in the middle of her semester at college so not sure if she can but want to make sure she is on our orders... Any help or insight to this? Thank you!

DodeaHopeful I am also in the Pacific I've heard of other people having to move after their college aged children were taken off orders NOT after they went to college If you can get by on the lower LQA, it would help you not have to move later But you may claim your daughter according to what I heard

someday So I will be in the same boat with a 20 year old who isn't going to school full time. Just part time. The lqa would then reduce when she turns 21 right? Are you recommending locate a rental that would work with the lower LQA so I wouldn't end up out of pocket paying anything?

haha I wouldn't worry too much about it. Even with just the "with family" (teacher plus at least one dependent) rate you would be just fine in most locations. We have the "2-3 Dependent" rate and even with a large (by Japanese standards) house off base we would still be fine with the lower rate.
