I have put my application in previously (2015-2016 SY) and had a few bites, but was beginning a new relationship and finally pulled my app. Well, I got married last year and I am trying to convince my new husband that we should do this!! I am curious as to the likelihood of two educators getting a job somewhere? Is it better for one to go, then the other go and look for a job? I know the military has spousal preference/local hire benefits, but do civilians and Dodea teachers? Would it be better for me as a teacher/librarian to try or him as an administrator of 25 years? I am not sure how often high school principals turn over? His present school he is over has 1K students and he has been an administrator in multiple states. Any advice would be welcome!

TIA!

Ida Also local hires can get "hired" into the system. For example, if you start as an NTE you can be hired permanent if you change subjects. You still don't get benefits until you move but you do get a more permanent position within the system.

I think it helps to have two applications in the system. My husband and I did this. He ultimately g...See More

SpedTeacher74 When my daughter attended DoDEA schools in Germany, there were three married couples in her school teaching...so surely it is possible.

HelpOthers I agree, both of you should apply and see what happens. If you are both hired before you move, you will both receive all benefits. If one is hired and the other not, the other can apply as a local hire and attempt to convert through future transfers or administration directed moves. Your husband may actually be in a better position for employment t...See More
