Interesting. Were any of the probationary folks SPED? I know the union has complained that a number of SPED teachers were non-renewed in the past few years, despite getting no/very little training in DoDEA specific procedures, etc.

Is it common for Dodea to not renew contracts for teachers? Seems like it costs a lot of money to move people and their stuff to Japan or Bahrain or Germany and then just let them go. Do they have to lots of documented evidence of insubordination, or do they let people go if it simply isn't the best fit?

I don't have the stats, but it is fairly rare in my experience. The only case I have seen/heard of (not read about here) wasn't insubordination so much as just not being organized, no classroom management and being kind of aggressively non-open to help of assistance/feedback.
