I will be moving to Italy for a position I accepted. I was told I needed to get a visa before I get orders. Is Italy different than the rest of DODEA, I thought teachers were given a SOFA visa or something?
haha Some locations (like the UK and apparently Italy) do require visas. Many others (like Japan, Germany, etc.) do not require visas and we just get SOFA stamps in our passports and show that and orders when we come and go.

**psych** The sogiorno is a very big deal. Indeed, there have been instances of DoD & military folks denied entry because of claimed status but without the right visa. In many countries, there is no SOFA visa.

Laura Human Resources will walk you through the visa process. They will have you get your official passports and then you will mail those to HR and they will take them to the italian embassy to get the visas. Then they will mail them back to you.
