What will happen at the end of the year? Will it just be temporary or will they place you in a permanent position?

In general, they will not hire from stateside and move someone over just to fill a position for the rest of the year, so there would be some plan to continue beyond this year or be placed in another position/location/etc. (although since you would be provisional there is no "guarantee" of a position).
