I have a Single Subject California teaching credential in Secondary Math and am hoping to also qualify to teach middle school and/or high school General Science with DoDEA. The DoDEA website requirements to qualify for Middle School General Science are: "A major in general science or a minimum of 24 SH in the field of general science. Course work must include a minimum of 9 SH of upper level science courses. For teacher of life science and earth science, 9 SH are required in the assigned subject." I have 16 SH in biology and physics (lower level courses). I have degrees in math, computer science, and operations research. I'm hoping that the upper level computer science, math, or operations research (data analysis, computation methods, etc) will meet the 9 SH of upper level science courses but I can't find a list of courses or subjects that DoDEA considers "science courses." Does anyone have any info or insight on this? Thank you!
haha I can't speak to science specifically, but generally they want courses from the relevant department. In math, for example, they require the classes to be from a math department (MAT prefix) rather than a business math, economics, etc. course.

When you say your traditional science credits are lower level, what exactly do you mean? For DoDEA...See More

IsItFriday? Yeah. You don't have enough credits. You need 8 more science credits. HR is not going to give you science credit for math, comuter science or operations research. But you could lie. When HR asks "What is operations research?" omit the answer you gave above and just tell them that it is a branch of science, kind of like an off shoot of physics. You c...See More

bem The biology courses are 100 level and the physics are 200 level. I was wondering about which subjects/courses DoDEA considers "science courses." The obvious ones are biology, chemistry, and physics. But after researching General Science bachelor's degrees, it appears that many schools also consider computer science, math, and psychology part of the...See More

haha It is late but might not be too late for 2019-2020. If they need people with your certs then they can manage your EAS and push it through.

I don't believe they will count CS for the general science but like I said, submit it all, ASAP, and let them sort it out. They will generally not notify you by email. The HR person that evaluates your...See More
