Out of curiosity, is there an age limit on the car you can bring with you? Does it differ from Germany, Italy, and Japan? I only ask because I am a classic car guy and have a few in the states with me.
haha Yesh, each country will have their own import policies but I've not heard of restrictions specifically against older cars. I'm not sure about DoDEA's take on it since we never shipped a car. (but pretty sure they will only pay to ship 1 car).

I forget the exact specifics but in Japan age could be a benefit since they restrict import of car...See More

IsItFriday? No restrictions.

But you may get an unpleasant surprise when you go to insure the vehicle. Get an insurance quote before you commit to ship a particular car overseas.

Icanread Japan has strict rules about vehicles that pass their inspections. You could end up spending a lot of money getting the car to pass inspection.

HelpOthers There are lots of older cars you can purchase while in Japan. It is nicer to drive a car with the steering wheel on the right side.
