Anyone have experience working stateside? Curious about thoughts and impressions doing so. Anyone start stateside and then move into an overseas position? Once you start teaching stateside can you leave whenever to teach overseas?
haha No personal experience with DoDEA Americas. I know/know of many people who started in an Americas school and were then hired for DoDEA overseas. There is not an official advantage or transfer process, but many people believe that being part of the system, knowing the terminology, curriculum, etc. helped them make the move overseas.

HelpOthers I agree with haha. The advantage is that once you have 5 years of experience outside DoDEA, those DoDEA years and your start date with DoDEA help you. Stateside only 5 years of non-DoDEA experience help with the pay scale. 10 years for overseas. IsItFriday? Teachers in DoDEA-Americas are generally happier with their jobs than the average American teacher (but that fact suffers from selection bias).

Teachers in DoDEA-Americas don't often resign to work for public schools in NY, GA, KY, or anywhere else. That says a lot.
