Do you know which military installations are most likely to allow DOD civilians to live in military housing? I understand that's determined by demand and occupancy rates, but is there a listing somewhere?
HelpOthersFort Knox currently has plenty of housing for civilians. Fort Bragg allows it, but you may be on a wait list for a long time. i don't know about other locations.

TravelingTeacher to DaeguRedClover are you in the San Juan Islands? Just curious because I'm from there and I read that you need to coordinate ferry times (Oh I've been there!).
Redclover711No, I live along the Inside Passage in Alaska on an island near Juneau. They finally got most of the trip booked, but still working on the bush flight out of my village. They had to get extra authorization because of all the steps to get me there. It all worked out in the end though!
K...See MoreNo problem! We truly love Japan. Most people seem to want Europe right away but we actually started there. Liked it for a few years but really missed Japan (we had taught there before with an int'l school and really wanted to get back here). So, I was able to get a transfer to Japan and my spouse got picked up as a local hire right away.
Kinnick is a relatively large high school and as a math teacher your husband would likely get something fairly quickly. Good luck!
HelpOthersIs your husband's application active too? If he is hired before you arrive there, I believe he also gets CONUS benefits, but if hired after you arrive, is hired as a local hire. Just a thought. congratulations!

In the past there have been issues with nepotism and not hiring the most qualified people so this is one of the ways they try and eliminate/minimize those kind of problems.
Adding certifications could help as could additional experience and training. Go through your application and see if you can honestly highlight any other skills/experiences on the Additional Training Experience section of your application (on the Skills and Activities tab).
I didn't get my travel orders yet... but has anyone been able to use DPS even though the system in unsupported? I have a MacBook pro (MacOS Sierra) and a desktop (Windows 10). When I run a system check, they both say unsupported operation system. :(
newdodea12345Teach, I that's what I was thinking but read otherwise. My dilemma is not a bad one to have but a dilemma nonetheless. At this point, I'll have to make a decision and be happy with my decision. Thank you so much for the response.
Someone on the DoDDS Teachers Facebook page posted the following helpful information: DoDEA has begun offering online "Comprehensive Onboarding information" for new DoDEA hires and current DoDEA employees transferring duty stations.
I have been doing a little research and it seems that it may take several weeks to get a firm offer. Because school will start for me in a little over a month, and I decline the offer at that point (because school is already in session/breaking contract issues), what will that mean for me?
