Would someone who has worked for DDESS and successfully transfer to DODDS share some insights with me. I have 3 great offers, two international schools and one DDESS position in PR. I would love to work for DoDDS overseas. I have never considered stateside because of the relocation fees and housing which I pay on my own. If accept the international position, they would provide housing, meals, health insurance and flight). Accepting the DDESS position in PR means I take a $15,000 pay cut, will need to buy a car to get around, but I'd be willing to deal with that if accepting the position significantly improve my chances of getting a DoDDS position as an internal applicant. Please advise.

newdodea12345 Yes, you did. I noticed after I posted. This is literally the hardest decision I have ever had to make and I'm torn.

Teach I've known many teachers who worked at international schools and were able to eventually get a DODEA position. As long as you were recruited from the US and receive housing and travel benefits from an international school, you can still apply as a CONUS DODEA hire and get the benefits.

If you take that pay cut, how long will it be before your pay is back to where you are now or where you would be with DoDDS? The years with DDESS will count towards your steps, so you would be able to start above the starting st...See More

newdodea12345 Hi Mary-Lorraine, If I get all my years, it will take 8 more steps to make the salary that I'm making now or would have made overseas. In DoDDS it would take me 10 more steps, which I cannot compare because of the benefits. I have six years teaching experience in the states and the others are overseas. I think your post and Teach's post help a grea...See More

newdodea12345 Teach, I that's what I was thinking but read otherwise. My dilemma is not a bad one to have but a dilemma nonetheless. At this point, I'll have to make a decision and be happy with my decision. Thank you so much for the response.
