Perplexed...wanting advice. I first started 2 years ago. I did comp 1 and 2 year 1. Got a 2.0 on 1 and 1.750 on 2. Last year I did 3 and 4. I got a 2.0 on 3 and 2.0 on 4. Felt like 3 and 4 were at least a 3.0. What should I do??
kkwyattIm a mentor. I had 3 candidates in my group score 1.0 on different components!! Im just sick :( Im totally convinced that there is a glitch somewhere, but who has $500 to fight (or question) a losing battle.
mscrawford101Redo 1 for sure. That's a low hanging fruit. What is the calculator telling you? If you got a 3 on 1 and a higher score on 3 would you certify?
I'm certifying in ECYA-exceptional needs. For Comp 3 it says, "two different lessons and units of instruction" and on another page it says, "the two videos combined must represent a breadth of knowledge of the content area." At first read, it seems like two different lessons from 2 different areas (mat/science), but after reading that together it demonstrates content area knowledge, it seems like two different units within one content area (ex. Math). I recently attended a conference where an assessor said they want it from two totally different areas. So now I'm confused, based on the wording in the component.
Has anyone turned in Comp 3 (and passed) from exceptional needs? If so, did you submit different areas or different units from one area?
mscrawford101Yes I passed C3. One of my videos was 3rd grade writing. The other was a 4th grade reading group. Your content area knowledge is Exceptional Needs not science, math or reading so how would you best demonstrate how you teach students with exceptional needs?
c66223I missed the cut score by 1 point. What is the verification service? I would love to have my scores reevaluated, but was not sure how to go about doing that.
mscrawford101It's not a re-eval of your score. They just make sure that it is in fact what you scored they do not restore your submissions. Save your money and focus on one component you could improve!
lizI think 1 and 2 are really good to do together because comp 2 will help you understand and study your standards which you need for component 1. I had 2 mentors, and I can tell you that they are not all equally good. It doesn't hurt (or cost you anything) to ask for a new mentor.
mscrawford101There's a lot of great resources on the web. Join the Facebook groups and the other boards. I didn't do it with a mentor but I did use input and feedback from my peers!
Hi Everyone, I teach in a resource room. I passed component 1&2. Now I am doing component 4. My question is - How many students constitute a group? I have smaller groups.
mscrawford101For the assessment part you need at least three students so I would make sure it is a group of three! For one part of 4 I used my 4th grade math kids (4 of them) and for the other part I used my caseload.
Hello! Could anyone tell me if there are any support groups/mentor programs available in R.I. for teachers who are looking to become Nationally Board Certified?
Is anyone looking to retake Component 3 for AYA Science? I missed certifying
by 6 points. Since this component is weighted more heavily, I feel I can improve enough to pass. I am looking for advice. It appears I need to "provide clearer evidence" for several prompts. I would appreciate any advice.
