Hello, all, new to the board! I'm looking for resources to help study for component 1 - Exceptional Needs Specialist (mild/moderate disabilities). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
For today, let's talk about C2. This component is all about differentiation. You use student work samples to show how you meet the different needs in your classroom. MOST certificate areas ask you to choose 2 students to feature, although some ask for just one (Literacy and ENS, I believe - but check YOUR directions!). You need to choose students whose needs are DIFFERENT so that you an showcase the scope of your ability to differentiate.
Most certificates focus on writing of some type, but some focus on activities and/or projects ( math, science, and CTE come to mind) - so again check YOUR instructions. C2 is the component where the directions are DIFFERENT for each certificate area ( C3 and 4 have the same instructions for everyone). I can't emphasize enough that you must know what YOUR certificate instructions say so that if someone in a different certificate area from yours asks a question that might not jive with yours, you won't be confused or panic because your info is different.
One of the best pieces of advice I can give for C2 is to PLAN BACKWARDS. You do that by reading the prompts in the Written Commentary section and asking yourself, "What can I do in my classroom, to provide the opportunity to collect evidence to respond to this question?"
EVIDENCE = EXAMPLES!
Then as you make your decisions, ask yourself, "WHY am I doing this?" You need to be able to articulate your rationales - the WHY of your thinking. What questions do you have about YOUR C2? Candidates-in-Waitng...what advice to you have for C2?
I am preparing for my Component 1 exam as a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher. They have recently removed FACS as a subcategory under CTE and now have to test under "Community Services" (I am nervous about this). Unfortunately they are testing me on my degree subjects like Parenting, Early Childhood, Food and Nutrition, along with subjects outside of my degree area such as Fire/Rescue Safety, Law Enforcement, Medical Terminology, etc.
Does anyone have any recommendations for studying the CTE Component 1 Exam??
I know the multiple choice component goes down to the decimal point, but for portfolio and constructed response items everyone I know received a whole number (1,2,3). Do they even give decimal scores?
I am a GATE specialist at a Title 1 Tier 1 school. ( + 90 % of my students are ELL. I was wondering if I should go for English as a New Language or Exceptional Need Students? Please, advise!
I am retaking for a better score. I have seen conflicting information. Should I study 4th, 5th, and 6th grade science content? or 1st - 6th grade science content?
Asking because I have seen prompts for EC GEN that have 3rd grade prompts. Without telling your topic has any MC GEN had a prompt with a grade below 4th grade on their assessment?
Was wondering what you have to keep in terms of student work we cited in our Components (can we give it back to students?) and/or how long do we keep it? I figure we need to keep the student release forms and hard copies of our Components. Do we get audited?
