Toddler Schedule

What is a typical schedule for a toddler 1.5-2.9 yrs. old. The class I have been observing is very unstructured. Other than project, circle, lunch, nap, pm snack and diapers, it is all free play. Is this normal?

cheryl I have some questions that I would love to have answered. We are growing in our toddler group and I feel like we could be doing a better job for them.

In the younger groups what types of centers do you have? Are they loosely arranged?

Dumping...always an issue...I am finding that our kids are dumping a lot. What are your remedie...See More

Well, yes, you'll need to get all your work done for your CDA so you can catch up with the rest of us! The things you don't know! Kidding, just kidding. You are right, there are the rules and there is no flexibility for common sense it seems.

In high school I read two Maria Montessori books and fell in love with the concept and principles. I have not had any Montessori training, though I've considered it. Decided not to because of the price.

Interestingly, when I was in school (have my Associate's Degree) and we were supposed to do site visits - I always included studying at Montessori and loved it. Always gave glowing reports in class. But I never met another student who liked Montessori. They all thought it was awful after visiting the school and vowed they would never teach in a setting like that.

That saddened me and I think surely they just didn't get the basic premise. I think they were only comfortable with 'typical' preschools with things going on in them that they expected and teachers doing the "rah-rah" thing. That doesn't sound very nice, sorry.

They weren't use to seeing a student led, teacher facilitated situation.

Schari Cheryl, no matter the situation, bravo for you to self reflect on what you are doing with your children. Children's abilities and interests are ever changing and we should always have a fluid environment that can change with them.
